911SC Coupe ARROW BLUE Searching for original NSW owner from 1979 to early 90's

After some inspiration from AC78's thread I have decided to start my own search.

I am searching for the original owner of my 1979 911SC Coupe in ARROW BLUE with cork trim.

I believe it had one NSW owner from 1979 through to the early 90's.

During this time the car was regularly serviced by Scuderia Veloce.

I am hoping it may have belonged to a forum member or someone may know the original NSW based owner.

It is such a distinctive colour that it would be hard to forget (even after many years).

This pic is from the mid 90's.  I believe it may have been fitted with different wheels in the early 90's (but not 100% sure on this).

Hey Astar,

Good luck in your search..... maybe a few photos might help jog a memory or two....

A photo tells a thousand words.....

Maybe, also try and call Scuderia Veloce ..... they may or may not have records kept from back then....

Also, Porsche Australia will be able to tell you which dealer originally sold it new..... maybe another avenue?

Thanks for the reply. I will post some photos when I get a chance, car has been in storage for some time and is starting to look like a barn find.

Car was Aus delivered but PCA will not issue any details of the original owner and it is not recorded in the books, I have contacted Scuderia Veloce but they don't have any old records and any long term staff have since moved on.

I know it is a longshot but you never know!

Anyone that would have records of the car is likely not to disclose it due to privacy reasons. Having said that you may find some way of getting the information you need.

If Scuderia don't have records and the old timers have moved on then perhaps they are working elsewhere. Some older 911 specialists in NSW might be worth contacting, perhaps they used to work at Scuderia. Think about Phil at Auto Coupe. He did his apprenticeship at Hamiltons (I'm pretty sure he told me that once) and is still servicing cars he did the predelivery on. Think 70's models! Talking to the independent guys might lead you to another source.

Another option is the RTA as they have the registration records, but they won't tell you if you just ring them. You'd need an insider :)

Others would include finance and insurance companies but these will be similar to the RTA.

If you are comfortable to do it maybe let us know the VIN and maybe some members could help by asking around. Maybe if someone has access to records then they could attempt to contact the former owner on your behalf. More often than not you'd expect the former owner to be happy to get in touch.

I tried to get the full history on my car but one of the owners (longest owner) had since passed away (many years ago) and I couldn't get any connection with family.

If you can find out which states of Australia the car has been registered in previously you might try comtacting the corresponding Porsche clubs. They may have a long-time member who remembers seeing it from way back.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have added a pic from the mid 90's to the first post.

Some time back I confirmed with NSW RTA that the car only had one owner until the early 90’s but they could not release any info.

I have also checked with PCNSW but they have no record of the car ever belonging to a member.

The only real leads I have are that the car was serviced by Scuderia Veloce and that at some time in the 80’s or early 90’s it had an expensive Nakamichi stereo set up  installed by Quality Sound/Woollahra Car Audio in Rozelle NSW (I think they are no longer in business).

Original pic shows chrome window and headlight trims. I thought all SCs had black trim/body coloured headlight trims.  Am I wrong here, or s this car special?  Is it still this colour combo now?

I believe the black trim was an option, the standard trim was polished.

The car is still the same colour combo.

You had me wondering about this, so I also did a bit of research....

Seems the early SC's came standard with chrome trim...... black was an option...

The black trim was standard from '79 / '80 SC's....

Gotta love this thing we call "the net" ......

In my day, I'd have had to schlep all the way to the library and sort through dozens of those things we call "books" .....

I might have had an answer in 2 - 3 days....

Not to get your hopes up but I did see a Arrow Blue 911 drive out of the Bunnings carpark at Mittagong last year. Even though it needed a wash I thought what great colour....

Graeme

Thanks, but definitely not the one, mine is rarely driven and has been in storage for many years and has been in VIC since the mid 90's.

Nice to have another Arrow Blue owner on here, mine is a 79SC Australian delivered, originally with cork interior as well. A lot of changes since then but the colour has stayed. Sorry I can't help with any info but it is nice seeing another one not to mention one that is in original trim.

Cheers Al

  • 7 months later...

I don't think you're doing your search any favours by not posting the VIN or known registration numbers.

Your first port of call should be the selling dealer.  From there if no luck, try to contact the sales person from SVM at the time.  Additionally, some early service invoices would help.  The fact is, SVM do know, you just need to get the right person.

I've assumed the original maintenance book has gone missing, the first (And sometimes subsequent) owners details are always written in the front page by the selling dealer.  It was a requirement for warranty.

You can try this as it has worked on occasion

Ring up the local police and tell them that your looking at a car to buy but am unsure if the owner is legit etc,

Give the polise the licence plate number and ask them to confirm the original owner,

Have a name (make up any name) handy in case they ask you what name you have, .

If lucky they will tell you who the correct owner is and the address also (a friend of mine did it )

Then hang up because they will possibly ask you for more details lol

maybe ring from a pay phone :)
