tazzieman Posted 12September, 2014 Report Share Posted 12September, 2014 Well as we know Porsches are common as muck nowadays. What's a chap to do? The drawback of living on a island off a bigger island is supply & choice. Not too many Tatras... Always wondered about owning one of these ; maybe I should move back "home" for a year ? And learn how to weld sills. Really , is ownership more painful than a Porsche? “Mmm, maybe I misjudged Stromberg. Russ Posted 12September, 2014 Report Share Posted 12September, 2014 there's a project underway for getting the dashboards working with LCD's and Raspberry Pie, I don't think it's impossible

ByronBayChris Posted 12September, 2014 Report Share Posted 12September, 2014 I've always liked the Lagonda.......I suppose that says a lot about me All the ones I have seen for sale show "Low kilometres...." we all know why that is I could still park a Lagonda in my garage - there, Ive said it. tazzieman Posted 13September, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 13September, 2014 Yep , that'll do it! Very nice. Sounds like my V8 with the rear muffler "bypass"; what a shame there are no tunnels here, I have to bounce it off sidings. The Aston has leather AND wood and at least another 100 or so hp. I want one of those as well. http://www.kidston.com/kidston-news-item/149/Power-Corrupts:-Taming-the-Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage-6.

Stew F Posted 13August, 2015 Report Share Posted 13August, 2015 Don't get me started on Astons. I love them. If I could afford one I would go for it straight away. I've driven a DBS, and ridden in a DB4 Zagato a few times. That was like OD'ing on Viagra man.I just love the sound of them. Vanquish. A car called that must surely have some supernatural powers well beyond the realm of understanding of us mere mortal Porsche owners.. tazzieman Posted 13August, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 13August, 2015 Airhead I agree , this is every gentleman's gentleman's dreamIt bugs me that I have never owned a vintage car, let alone an AM.Though the Landy has a 30s sidevalve engine and bolts with Whitworth threads , etc.

LeeM Posted 13August, 2015 Report Share Posted 13August, 2015 I'm not exactly sure what I saw a few weeks ago being driven in peak hour here in Adelaide, but I THINK it was a Silver DB5 like the one above.I was waving like a 3 year old at a Wiggles concert in my appreciation to the driver, then thought to meself 'You must look like a right dick doing this'!Luckily he didnt see me, but it's the first classic Aston I've ever seen actually being driven. What a treat that was, and it sounded magnificentMy absolute favourite car is a dead heat between a Miura or a DBR1, and if I won lotto, I'd be looking for both real quick! There's just something about an Aston, whether it be the style, or the heritage associated with the brand, but I love 'emhttps://www.google.com.au/search?q=aston+martin+dbr1&es_sm=122&tbm=isch&imgil=t__BEf_jwLVIuM%3A%3BLYw9---7N4bJSM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.tech-racingcars.eu%252Faston-martin-dbr1&source=iu&pf=m&fir=t__BEf_jwLVIuM%3A%2CLYw9---7N4bJSM%2C_&biw=1366&bih=667&usg=__doHwLY9LEZNaAxrU2lHK4a8TDO0%3D&ved=0CCcQyjdqFQoTCPvDq-_KpccCFcidpgodtCoIJA&ei=yU3MVbu7Csi7mgW01aCgAg#imgrc=t__BEf_jwLVIuM%3A&usg=__doHwLY9LEZNaAxrU2lHK4a8TDO0%3D tazzieman and symsy
clutch-monkey Posted 13August, 2015 Report Share Posted 13August, 2015 talking to a guy with a racing DB4(5? looks like the silver one above) and he gave me an example of how 'hand made' they are.. he got a replacement bonnet for his off a car in the states, and it was a full inch shorter than the bonnet on his car. same model and all. symsy

Lee , believe or not , there are around 13 of these I was told here , a lot have gone overseas there were more, quite a lot since there are around 700 cars left . They must be owned by many of us Expat pommies living in paradise , wanting to drive paradise like me . They are suprisingly robust once to go through the running gear , I used to drive my DB6 to work a lot of the time , through inner western traffic and blast it across the sydney harour bridge regularly , thats of course if I wasnt travelling in the reverse direction being a hoodlum at 200kmh in the 993 as there were no cameras and no where for the cops to hide on the inside lane of the cahill express way ….I bet many have no idea how used some of their garage exotica was used as daily commute once.. I wouldn't own just any old car.A 1936 520hp 750kg Auto Union would fit the bill - and shame most modern cars.Anyway , the Landy is there as the workhorse of the fleet...and a testament to there being old cars you can find in the bush - for $

The father of a guy who worked for my dad back in the 1990's had/has a silver DB5. He used to own a small car yard in Pultney Street (where the Kmart auto centre is now) dealing in our types of cars. Apparently one day a chap came in and traded the DB5 on something newer. The guy decided to keep it for himself. Not sure if he still has it. It wasn't immaculate from what I remember, but it sure was pretty.
