333pg333 Posted 27October, 2014 Report Share Posted 27October, 2014 Those of you that have driven at Sydney Motorsport Park aka 'the Creek' will know that this is a scary corner at the best of times. Here's a short video taken at WTAC where Paul McKinnon goes through T1 without braking having hit about 250kph down the main straight. Not for the feint hearted! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA3oq_yxLZY&list=UU7gkao2axZSZRQRdyWld9oA

Tit Posted 27October, 2014 Report Share Posted 27October, 2014 Such an awesome car.. Repost just for respect: http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/12/german-speed-metal-a-time-attacking-porsche-944-turbo/
333pg333 Posted 27October, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 27October, 2014 Thanks! The car has changed quite a bit since that Speedhunters article. We have done a lot more work on the Aero side of things and also removed those ugly canards. We were actually getting front end lift with that setup believe it or not! oldblade Posted 27October, 2014 Report Share Posted 27October, 2014 love it!!!! Turn 1 is a very scary place but such a buzz when you get it right and even better when you have to insert a little steering correction

SteamWolf Posted 28October, 2014 Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 anything going over 200 around T1 without braking is a serious bit of gear indeed! The scary factor increases exponentially from about 185kph up!
333pg333 Posted 28October, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 Remember this is 219kph minimum through there, not max. This is how they rate the corner. Paul reckons he can squeeze this out to maybe 225-230kpm min which is astounding! The car that won the Pro-Am class (PMQ Evo) did 235kph min through there but is substantially more developed than ours. The MCA Hammerhead car's fastest min speed was 225kph and that was being driven by Shane Van Gisbergen. So we're in pretty lofty company for a car that has old trailing arm suspension and no flat bottom or diffuser. Here's the in-car video of our 1st lap and as it unfortunately proved, on out of round tyres. He still manages an incredible 1:31.4 and as you can see is fighting the car all through the lap. He comes in initially as the car is shaking so much due to the tyres, so he checks that they did all the wheel nuts up before going out. Plus there was no rear grip. What might have been. We think if we were able to compete properly through the event we would have got into the 1:29's based on data. You can see in this video he just touches the brakes into T1 on this first lap. He didn't do the no brakes/219kph min until a later session so we definitely had more time up our sleeves. Next year dammit!!!
Owgasm Posted 28October, 2014 Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 This is my cousin in the MightyMouse 101 CRX, also in PRO AM, going flat through turn 1 at EC. Not lifting and therefore no braking. This is a video from last year, every hot lap is the same though, flat through turn 1. 237km/h, no lift. Mid corner speed, 232km/h. He was a bit slower this year, will have to report back as to what speed he got up to this year. But a faster laptime. 131.8Top speed 225km/hT1 flat min speed 220km/hT3 FlatT7 165km/h min speed
333pg333 Posted 28October, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 Thanks for that. Very interesting! I loved watching the MM scream down the main straight and just keep the revs up all the way through T1. Very gutsy and exciting to watch/listen to. That's also a great time for a small n/a motor. Good package.

333pg333 Posted 28October, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 Is that an RX7? He does well with an underpowered car. You can see how much easier it is to control a car like that at the limit. Surprising to hear the drop in rpms when he went into 4th. Was like an overdrive. Not great for a racecar. Evo's have a similar drop in rpms. Must be for economy or something.
333pg333 Posted 28October, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28October, 2014 Oh, and Mighty Mouse would have lost quite a lot of top speed due to newer Aero package. Unfortunately all that downforce comes at a price but as we've found out, corner speed is more important than top end in many cases.
