Sam Ball Posted 17December, 2014 Report Share Posted 17December, 2014 Just wondering if anyone locally refurbs Gauges? I notice on pelican parts they refer to 'NHS' in Hollywood but is there an alternative here? Mine are ok- but a bit tired.

Sam Ball Posted 18December, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 18December, 2014 Thanks, just spoke to those guys in Mulgrave and they couldn't reprint the faces of the gauges - said theycould do the needles, but that would be it.Do your guys in Tamworth have the screens to reprint the faces?Sounds like its quite specialised. Sam Ball Posted 18December, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 18December, 2014 Just found these guys down in Melbourne.http://www.howardinstruments.com.au/page/porsche-dials/They re-furb, but looks like they print onto vinyl and then stick that onto the prepared dials - would this be OK? or is the better option to have it printed directly onto the dial? SimonR Posted 19December, 2014 Report Share Posted 19December, 2014 http://www.ottoinstruments.com.au/restoration.htm in Brisbane, did my MGB combined temp gauge, back in the day. 550Spyder Posted 20December, 2014 Report Share Posted 20December, 2014 I would seriously think about buying a postpack and sending them to north Hollywood gauges in California. They are acknowledged as the gurus. I have a set of gauges there at the moment and all the work I have seen of theirs has been excellent. http://nhspeedometer.com/911/service_restorations/1.htm

I can't send mine away as its my daily driver, but I'm keen to get the 912's gauges fully refurbed.
Sam Ball Posted 22December, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 22December, 2014 Yeah I have a photo of their work - can't seem to upload - but perfect They quoted $600 to $1,000 US plus postage for a full set depending on condition So not cheap

It's a lot of money, but gauges are expensive. Thanks for letting me know!

f3nr15 Posted 5January, 2015 Report Share Posted 5January, 2015 I used North Hollywood Speedo for my 964 gauges - They repaired one gauge and refurb'd the rest. It cost US$870 incl return postage. The gauges look great.
asgraham Posted 19January, 2015 Report Share Posted 19January, 2015 As mentioned above by Hepkat63, check out porschedials.com purely for your dial face. I follow them on Facebook but have never used them, perhaps someone else here has and could provide some feedback? They are based in Europe and have heaps of different custom dial faces for all Porsches. Just do a search on Facebook for 'D-Werx /Porschedials.com' and I'm sure you will find them. SimonR Posted 9February, 2015 Report Share Posted 9February, 2015 Thanks Simon will give them a call Sam, I just dropped my speedo out to Otto Instruments, should be done by the end of the week/early next week. I'll let you know how I go. They were very helpful and knew exactly what the issues were.
Stew F Posted 9February, 2015 Report Share Posted 9February, 2015 I've had some work done by Auto Instrument Services in Adelaide previously. Had a few vintage Smiths motorcycle speedos done there. They did a brilliant job. While they were working on the internals I collected the external bits and restored them, then took them back for them to reassemble. They re-lettered the numeral wheels and put new dial faces in, and refurbished the pointers. Couldn't fault their work or their service.
