danny3.0 Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 Does any one know of a Monty Muffler for sale. I am looking for a M11 Monty to fit on my Carrera 3. It is a 2 in 1 out with 75mm outpipe I am retrofiting the pre 1974 Heat exchangers. Regards
Peter M Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 Danny,You'll need to be lucky! Not quite what you want but this one has been for sale for a while : http://www.porsche-qld.org.au/PorscheClubs/pc_queensland/pc_main.nsf/web/BD689D693943C729C1257D48000FF75F#pagetopMight be worth a quick chat to Mr Monty to see if the baffling allows the outlets to be adjusted. But I guess costs will add up quickly. I recall new is around $1250.
danny3.0 Posted 28December, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 Thanks Peter,Saw that one. I dont expect to find one but who knows. My understanding is not to play with the outputs. The last new price I had was $1400. I am ready to buy as I have just ordered the heat exchangers as the car is at Autowerks for a bit of work!! Peter M Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 Danny,Did you consider a Dansk as another option? I'm happy with my Monty but a Dansk may broaden your chances a bit more!
danny3.0 Posted 28December, 2014 Author Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 I am thinking Monty as I am trying to get a " Note", without drone at particular rev range. All things I have read seem to indicate that the Monty will do that. I had a mate with a 3.2 1984 standard Heat exchangers with no drone. OZ930 has a monty with the same result. What is your system, how loud is it in the cabin and does it drone? What dansk would you suggest. I have looked at them,But.
tazzieman Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 The last new price I had was $1400. I paid $1000 ~ 2 years ago. Prices are mirroring the upward trend in AC 911s it seems.
Peter M Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 Danny,My '85 has the standard headers and pre-muffler and I've just replaced the main muffler with a second hand, 1 in, 1 out Monty I bought off eBay for $400 late last year. It is definitely much louder at idle but not greatly louder at cruise and importantly no drone.I did consider SSI's but just knew that was the starting point of a slippery slope I didn't want to venture down. When I decided I wanted a bit more noise - yes, call me sophisticated - I hunted around the forums and found very little objective info except for a consistent opinion that a Monty was the way to go if you didn't want a drone AND no loss of power. I found it amazing that many so called sports mufflers actually lost hp in back to back testing. So I took the punt and have been happy. Can't comment on the power aspect as I also installed a Wong chip at the same time, but together they have made it feel revier and more willing.Happy to take you for a spin if you wish to hear first hand.I'd also suggest you contact Roodog, also a local, as he has just installed SSI's on his 3.0SC and understand he is happy with the Dansk (sourced from Autohaus) he now runs in place of the initial M&K which was described as "obnoxiously loud".I'd also ask Simon's (Autowerks) and Jame's (Autohaus) opinions as well as they would have reliable firsthand knowledge from customer feedback. clutch-monkey Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 I found it amazing that many so called sports mufflers actually lost hp in back to back testing. So I took the punt and have been happy. that is usually a tune issue not an inherent fault in the muffler/exhaust i thought?
Peter M Posted 28December, 2014 Report Share Posted 28December, 2014 that is usually a tune issue not an inherent fault in the muffler/exhaust i thought?Clutch,Could be but surely if you are going to the effort and expense of running a car on a dyno, I would think you would have ready access to A/F ratio info that would tip you off to any hp losing tune issues?
