No Carpet Interior

Been catching on PFA and noticed a few images of car interiors which sport bare metal (polished) floor pans inside with only fresh car mats as dressing.

I like the look and hence asking if anyone has tried this in a non restored / painted chasis and what was the feed back and final product look like.

I'm thinking this with a new pedal box assembly would look quite smart. May be noisier however that's a 'benefit' I would welcome.

Thoughts? Uncle did your Matt Black Nacht Jäger have this set up?

Hey Doish,

If I remember correctly, this was discussed in a different topic and the consencus was that many of our cars have a mat over the bare floorpan which was painted in the exterior colour .....

Mine is like this in the front and rear with only mats over the floor ....

I can only picture the full raw finish, which I think is awesome but probably wouldn't do it in my current car or do you mean a standard interior with an aftermarket pedal board?

My car sounds the same as Dreamer's, bare floor pan with mats over the top. The only difference might be in my carpets padding which fell to bits so I cut it out and glued in new underlay to each mat.

In terms of the raw look - I'm not sure I've seen a better job than the head designer of Bugatti's backdated 911.

What Dusty says

That silver 911 the Bugatti bloke has is one of my favourite cars.

I personally like the bare bones look, yet as you say, It'd be loud i reckon.

I wanted to do it to my black 912, but i wouldnt pass Lhd rego inspection.

Do it anyway

Thanks gents. My car looks "unpolished" under the floor mats too however was also referring to that section around the hand brake and gear as well as sides... Terrible comparison I know given the work out in however like that photo of the singer in the thread about Singers in oz.

Bare Bones look best describes it. Like this one in the link:

Love that Singer interior!

When we looked at painting the floor and tunnel a few weeks ago, it didn't look too hard to scrub up, paint and polish.

A big job if you want a perfect finish, and all your seam sealing will need to be pretty well done in my opinion.

Your handbrake and everything else will need to be as good as the floor, and your footboards would need to be in good nick too, yet done right, I reckon it would look tops. Rennline do nice aluminium perforated footboards that I will eventually buy for mine.

I have the standard rubber mates in my car ontop of recently laid Dynamat, yet I think Supercheap have some half decent old style rubber ones that would suit it

Agree with Lee - it'd be a huge job if you wanted it perfect but I don't think you'd be too happy if you simply exposed the tunnel and gave it a few coats. You'd struggle to ignore all the divots, scratches etc every time you're in the car.

Would look awesome if you did it right though and the sound shouldn't be too over the top if you still had the benefit of the mats? Mine is missing the engine bay sound proofing which I would've thought could be worse and even with an obnoxious exhaust it's not too loud in the cabin, until you get 'obnoxious' yourself.

I am Fairly sure that in the case of the Singer it is a carbon fibre inlay over the floor pan and tunnel & back seats

  • 4 weeks later...

I also really like the look of a painted interior, so my '73 RSR interpretation with painted interior is currently under construction by Autohaus Hamilton

That's yours??

Sorry but I drooled all over it on Friday

It is going to be epic. Care to post any details?

Hi JV911,

I have also been admiring your stunning grey 964 project.  In fact I spent quite some time looking over it and the ITB's with Grant last week. Well done and I look forward to hearing your 'drive reviews' about it.

We will post some more details on our Project 3.8RSR build shortly.

Cheers

Graeme
