tomo Posted 7January, 2015 Report Share Posted 7January, 2015 Confirmed: A Porsche 911 Targa Reimagined By Singer Is On The Way! Tweet Last week we received an email from subscriber, and French Porsche blogger Thomas Schenck, with pictures showing what a Porsche 964 Targa might look like were it to be reimagined by Singer (that's Porsche lawyer speak for don't call it a Singer Porsche). As most of you know, Singer uses 964s as their donor car of choice. As the 964 was the last of its kind to use the original style targa top (it went to a large glass sunroof type mechanism in the 933, and beyond, before coming back to the original this year) there's no reason why Singer couldn't reimagine one. They just haven't yet. However, after seeing the rendering above created by Steven Morfouasse we decided to reach out to Singer and see what they had to say on the matter. While details are scarce at this point they did confirm to FLATSIXES.com that, "Targas modified by Singer Vehicle Design will be seen in the near future." That's just awesome! Now we have to go put a 964 Targa in our garage to hold onto as a potential donor for when we can finally afford to have our very own Singer. Anyone want to buy a really popular Porsche blog? tomo Posted 24January, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 24January, 2015 More info Tazzieman Spec sheet of what is done to a 911 to make it a Singer http://singer.ericmcarlisle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/specification-and-program-options.pdf
tazzieman Posted 26January, 2015 Report Share Posted 26January, 2015 More info Tazzieman I think previously they have been asked if they were interested. They have said they may branch out. The 928 platform lends itself nicely to the luxury performance ethic , and when cost is not a factor e.g. trim engine etc The 928 may have been bought as a daily driver , who knows at this stage? Something very tasty awaits those with deep pockets.
Russ Posted 26January, 2015 Report Share Posted 26January, 2015 928 doesn't really have the same 'scope' of parts to select from though does it? (like they pick the best bits of all the 911s)

(like they pick the best bits of all the 911s) Singer haven't done a turbo have they? I think it's best that people stop comparing the 928 to any other car. It is what it is - unique. It was a clean sheet design , thus did not need to upgrade from 1950s Beetle parts over its lifetime. I'm going outside to have another gaze at mine. It is a thing of great beauty , especially up close!

tazzieman Posted 27January, 2015 Report Share Posted 27January, 2015 maybe they can cram a panamera V8 up front Turbo S Panamera only makes 550hp You can get much more , reliably , with the original 928 32v engine , much much much cheaper! The problem is getting that power to the ground. Take a 6.5L stroker 928 engine , twin turbocharge it and good luck keeping up!

withers Posted 30January, 2015 Report Share Posted 30January, 2015 Does anyone know how many Australian delivered 964 targa's there were? I understand there were about 4 or 5 thousand worldwide but can't ever recall seeing one for sale here. I know of a black one in Melbourne, I used to see it often. There's a lovely bright blue one in the NSW P Car Club. And I once asked about a silver one that was on Carsales a while ago. Funny you make this post Peter. I am thinking I might ring Jason I think his name is on Monday and ask him this very question. If I could own any Targa, it would be a 964. There's been a few imports for sale, both red ones. Most recent was a Japan import in Melbourne for $32k In hindsight, I really wish I'd tried harder to buy it I've not seen one for sale since in Australia.
