Red ones and yellow ones , imagine if there was a viper green one ....

Or pumpkin. Whilst silver isn’t my favourite colour, I’m not sure it deserves a 50K discount?

What would it cost to land this beauty in Aus?

https://jzmporsche.com/cars/porsche-996-u1962/

On today's exchange rates it would be about $330K just to buy it + freight + duties.

Biggest hurdle is you wouldn't be able to drive it until the 25th year passes due to the local import rules .....you'd have to store it in the UK until December 2028 😥

Had to go to Hobart yesterday, so took the "opportunity" to take the GT3 down to see the Shannons reps about increasing the value.  No problems at all to get agreed value lifted from $125k to $165k.  Rep went out to have a look around it, then went to see his boss for authorisation, no problems either as he'd checked it out when he walked past it a few minutes before.  And the best bit, having advised that as the 981 is no longer financed, with retaining $70k on that and $35k on the Toerag, our premium is $20/mth cheaper!!!

Who'd have thunk that having finance recorded against a car would cost so much extra in Insurance!!!

Have a few cars insured with them.

Renewal came this month, stuck with last years agreed value on the gt ($80k),premium on that car actually went down by $12.38.

So grandpa has a medical episode behind the wheel and ploughs into you writing the car off and you get an $80k pay out and have to find a mere $150 large to replace what you had....?

I just went thru the same thing yesterday.

One of my mates informed me that he had just upped his insured value on his 997TT.

I had to finalise a hail repair on a daily - and we spoke about updating mine..... roughly 50% more than i paid a few years ago - on both!!!!

The insured value - makes no difference to me - Im still going to drive the bloody things - life is too short!!!

I get the car back Cam, and can fix it to a point with the payout.

Wouldn't be able to replace many of my cars, they never made enough of them (del au) for whatever the insurance company dictate agreed value at.

They only made two mk1 in this colour combo del here, I don't know who has the other one but id be pushing it up hill to get it off him I'd bet for any money near what I would be able to argue cover wise.

I pay what I am happy to pay to cover my cars. Hell I realised the other day when looking over the policy that one car was still on laidup, that had new engine fitted ages ago. Been driving it for 8 plus months.

What would you do after smacking into the wall at the track? Most dont have cover at the track.

It's all about risk

Interesting discussion with Chris Harris and Andy Preuninger on 6.1 vs 6.2 on the latest Collecting Cars podcast. Well worth a listen.

Yes,

That's how it's supposed to be at Porsche. Next model better.

But doesn't always work that way with peoples taste.

The first 3lt 930 is a classic old school example vs it's younger brother the 78 3.3lt. Bigger power, bigger brakes etc. but I would go the early over the later with all it's idiosyncrasies any day.

That's just me.

I actually thought they were being a little harsh on the .1. I like what Chris Harris has to say in general and have huge admiration for AP. However, I find CH tends to hold onto sentiments and regurgitate them at times. It would be good to see him drive both cars again and refresh his perspective. AP obviously has a soft spot for the .2 as it was his first baby, so to speak. Just found it really interesting to hear about the development of both vehicles.

It’s a .2 for me, but the .1 is always going to hold a special place in Porsche history, being the first of the breed.

I loved that podcast, can listen to those guys talk all day… but the first thing I looked up after hearing that is KTM Freeride E-XC 🤣

Yesterday, I went through the exercise of  increasing the insured value of my 996.2 GT3 with Shannon's......not an inexpensive exercise.

I was originally  insured for $175,000, premium was $1,862 (Extreme Limited Use - use twice a month on average), with Excess of $1.750.

I took the value up to $225,000 , premium went up to $2,599 and excess went up to $2,250……ouch!

One of the biggest debates in the Porsche world......6.1 vs. 6.2.

I think it really is a matter of taste.....talking to folk that have had both opinion is really split....some say the 6.1 is much nicer on the road,  some say the 6.2 is more twitchy and nervous.......the 6.2 is better on the track and so on.

I love them both and when looking to buy was open to either the 6.1 or the 6.2.....i just wanted the best example possible and am happy with my 6.2.

I think we were discussing CH view about the 6.1 five years ago;  anyway my view is the 6.1 was developed/built by the Porsche racing division, 6.2 and all subsequent GT3s have been built by Preuninger and the marketing department and CH has been bullshitting the same *lame theory since 2004.

Which isn't *lame, just reinforces each GT3 is better than the last (which is no doubt true) but in the end there will only ever be one model that can claim to be the FIRST of the evolution of the GT3s! (6.1)
