GTP911 Posted 27January, 2019 Report Share Posted 27January, 2019 The 996 GT3 appears to be getting a lot of love in the US from the "comments", RE: attached GT3 recently sold on BAT (Bring A Trailer), nice pictures also. ❤️ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2005-porsche-911-gt3-3/ micknine01 and Jason A
Jason A Posted 27January, 2019 Report Share Posted 27January, 2019 When the US 20 year import rule kicks in, the MK1 and the MK2 RS will become something of interest. They were not sold there new. Which is also the reason production numbers were low. GTP911
Stephen Tinker Posted 27January, 2019 Report Share Posted 27January, 2019 And there are now only 2 x 996 GT3's for sale on Carsales website (both Mk1's), one @ $145k and the other @ $169k ...…. There were 5 or 6 available before Christmas - I wonder where they have all gone to?? GTP911

Rick V Posted 28January, 2019 Report Share Posted 28January, 2019 3 hours ago, Stephen Tinker said: There were 5 or 6 available before Christmas - I wonder where they have all gone to?? I bought the midnight blue Mk2 in SA & a mate was hot-to-trot on the red Mk2 in Vic, but it was sold locally a couple of days before we could get across the border. He’s still actively in the market, but looking for the right Mk2, not Mk1. No doubt there’s been a bit of movement, but wouldn’t be surprised if @JLD is right & a few of them have been withdrawn rather than sold. My (biased) view is that these cars are still undervalued, & if the lead from the UK & even USA are anything to go by, it won’t be long before they have their moment in the sun back here. The 996 GT3 RS has had a huge run-up in values in recent years, and whilst it is clearly a rarer car, it is likely that it will drag up the ‘standard’ 996 GT3 ‘s. Stephen Tinker Posted 28January, 2019 Report Share Posted 28January, 2019 There was an interesting discussion over on pistonheads regarding the individual merits of the 996 RS over the vanilla GT3 and the consensus was that you are paying +/- 50% less (in the UK) for the cooking version GT3 but getting 98% of the RS driving experience. Human beings are a strange lot, where perceived values are driven by perceived exclusiveness or rarity (mines bigger / better / rarer than your's syndrome). While I understand rare or handbuilt "one offs" and race cars with history are very desirable, spending $360 / $370k in Australia for an RS vs $150 /$170k for the standard version smacks of one upmanship to me. After saying that, the RS is probably the more focused version, but bugger me...... Rick - lovely coloured GT3 you have there, one of my favourites. How are you finding ownership - what's its history?
Jason A Posted 28January, 2019 Report Share Posted 28January, 2019 Not sure that a vanilla GT3 is 98% of the RS - my experience tells me the gap is more significant. I bought an RS fist then a vanilla car. Porsche is expert at making a few small differences that add up to something extra. The RS was a Homologation car for the RSR, there are a lot of changes. The price is more about it being the seacond rarest RS - 682 global units, 82 more than the ballistic 4.0. My 2 cents worth. All GT3’s are great cars, I would suggest to anyone looking - jump in, they are very cheap compared to other P cars.

How are you finding ownership - what's its history? Yeah it’s my favorite colour in the 996’s too. The car is awesome - 3 owner car with 41K kms on it..... most recent owner was an absolute enthusiast, so it was beautifully presented, without a $ needed to spend. Love driving it, washing it, looking at it. Wifey is starting to wonder where she comes in the pecking order Vs the GT3! I’ve never driven a 996 GT3 RS, but I reckon for $200K more it’d want to shit all over a vanilla GT3..... but then I’m not kidding myself that I’m a good enough driver to fully access the 0.2 sec advantage in the 0-100 sprint. Whilst I’m sure there are some real gun PFA drivers here, the GT3 gives more than enough performance for me, at my driving skill level, and for what I use it for. Of course its not just about the performance of the RS over a GT3;- there is the rarity factor, but then again I’d be too shit-scarred to drive it @ $370K!! I know it’s all relative, but I can’t help thinking of all the other additional Pcars I could add to the stable with another $200K.

Exactly, my Porsche is rarer than yours (as I suggested) .The purchase cost relates to perceived value not actual driving value..... Your second comment is 100% correct in my opinion! Brow Posted 28January, 2019 Report Share Posted 28January, 2019 Vanilla versus RS and bang for your buck ? Yes the Vanilla wins hands down which is nice, but that is a user’s criteria or perspective not a collector perspective. Bang for your buck justification is a slippery slope try Vanilla for $150k versus Cayman anything for $40k or a Veloster. ps “Bang” here only includes intrinsic value. Porsche is the most profitable car maker in the world with a consistent net profit of 15 to 20% ( from memory ) because it provides extrinsic as well as intrinsic value ( obvious variability across model range) both of which are evident in the pricing of Vanilla and RS Jason A

Stephen Tinker Posted 29January, 2019 Report Share Posted 29January, 2019 Congratulations, what's the details on the car. And to think my Arctic silver .2 was delivered new to its owner in Ascot by Chellingworth Porsche Perth, but now resides with me in Qld..... IIRC Chellingworth serviced my car for 8 years and 12,800km (2004 thro 1012) then one minor service by RPM Motor Sport in 2014. Is RPM an individual Porsche specialist in Perth? Stephen Tinker Posted 29January, 2019 Report Share Posted 29January, 2019 You're right, I've just checked and it is a RJP Motorsport stamp in the service book for a minor service and brake & clutch fluid change.

Stephen Tinker Posted 4February, 2019 Report Share Posted 4February, 2019 Down to only 2 x 996 GT3's on Carsales - AH still trying to flog their Martini decaled car @ $145k and a new on the market (?) WA Series 1 model with 125,000 km on the odo for a not unreasonable $125k + or costs.... I guess you have to look carefully at the service history and any attached invoices / records (if any) on a relatively high km GT3 to ensure if it's a good buy or not.. Stephen Tinker Posted 9February, 2019 Report Share Posted 9February, 2019 That type of sales spiel in the ad really leaves me cold. You would think that kind of sales pitch would work on a $25k used Hyundai Velostar or Nissan 260Z, but Dutton's are trying to winkle out $250k (plus an extra $18k in on road and insurance) from a (wealthy) punter in a difficult and rarefied market. Not very professional in my estimation......
