Harvs11 Posted 15February, 2015 Report Share Posted 15February, 2015 A UK delivered 911? Brace your selves http://www.classiccarreras.com/MinervaTarga.html This is a bad one but shows that you need to look under the trim panels and behind the removable sill panels to see how much, not if, rot there really is. Harvs11 Posted 15February, 2015 Report Share Posted 15February, 2015 big hole under the front head light a bit of a giveaway.. I think the hole would have appeared after scratching the surface on one of the paint bubbles. Once you pick that scab be prepared to go all in. Google search for "911 kidney bowl rust UK" will show this is a common problem, especially for the damp UK climate where many cars are kept outdoors so never really stand a chance. Even the later galvanised bodies suffer this fate.
Coastr Posted 16February, 2015 Report Share Posted 16February, 2015 The issue is also the mud and muck on many b-roads in the uk, of the type that you want to drive the car on. If you follow that link, you'll see it's all the areas around the wheels that are rotted out - because there are no wheel liners, all the muck gets thrown from the front behind the lights all the way around, and in the rear, even up into the c-pillar cavity, which is why you'll sometimes see them with rust around the corners of the rear window. That mud often also contains road salt from the winter - a corrosive mud pack that will destroy any metal, even if you keep the car under cover. Always clean around the wheels! At least once a year take the wheel off and have a good scrounge around with a hose and soft brush, and get all the dirt off.
