What are the odds of finding this??

If it wasn't so bloody expensive, I would do it in a heartbeat .....

The biggest problem is that it will need to go back to a bare shell to get rid of the red .....

If I could strip it and put it back together myself to save the labour costs, I would .....

you can. it's not hard! and paint the interior/engine bay/luggage compartment yourself to cut costs down again.

Ronny we can help pull it apart to save some cash......err, no guarantee it will end up the way it was though

No Dreamr,

But you have to admit it's a good idea....

How many shirts is a respray?

I should have known that once one of you reared your ugly head, the rest of the rat pack would follow .....

Thanks for the vote of confidence clutch-monkey ...... Unfortunately this doesn't look easy through my eyes (although I love the thought of being able to do it)

if you can turn a spanner or a screw driver, that's 90% of the job done..just take lots of photos so you know how it goes back together!

It's not the undoing and pulling apart that scares me .... its the 2nd half that could turn my car from an investment vehicle into something I would probably have to pay one of you guys to take away .....

it's just unbolting things then bolting them back on, not an engine rebuild lol.

And I'm sure that if it did need an engine rebuild you would say .....

"It's only an engine rebuild .... it's not like you need to strip back the whole car and remove every single nut and bolt, or anything"  ;)

Like I said, I appreciate the confidence you have in me, and I truly love the thought of actually doing it, but the reality is ....... well, quite different.

I'm guessing by your call sign that all of this is second nature to you. Feel free to take a couple of months off to come and hold my hand (not literally).

Maybe one day ..... :D

I disassembled a car for repaint when I was 17 and had some k-mart tools. Didn't even take photos. No problem! It's much easier than people think, they're designed to be built on an assembly line, you've just got to figure out the correct order of putting things back together.

haha partially, but i dunno if i'd rebuild it myself; however i'd certainly remove the engine myself and hand it over- no point paying workshop rates just for them to spend time removing it! same with painting- i might get someone to paint the external panels, but i'd not spend money for someone else to do grunt work like pulling trim off etc. it's like coastr says- it's not too difficult, and you never know til you try :)

i did mine myself- and yes had to call in some help from a retired panel beater to make sure the external panels were up to scratch!

As many of you know, my 911 is one of 2 x Bamboo coloured cars sold new in Australia. It was sold by the then dealer in S.A.I've always wondered what happened to the 2nd one and if it still exists. So last week I bought a bulk lot of magazines from ebay with over 300 car mags and a ton of brochures. Included in this lot are about 50 Unique Car magazines dating from 1985 to mid 90's.Great insight into car prices and availability of the time.So I decide to start looking through some or them on the "off chance" I might actually find my car for sale sometime in the 80's / 90's.Well, after 2 x magazines and heaps of Porches for sale, nothing (as expected). I did find a '74 RSR for sale in the mid 1990's for $96k or $65k for the engine only and another 911 RSR engine only for $50k.Flicking through the 3rd magazine, I stop on a page with a few porches and start reading the ads. 1981 SC, 5 speed manual, finished in Bamboo with Beige Berber interior, blah, blah, blah .....Turns out it's my original selling dealer in SA selling this one .... it's not mine as it has a different interior but it's the 2nd one being sold 7 years later in 1988 .....Onward and upwards in my search .... I'll keep this post updated in case I happen to find mine .....(by the way, I charge $50 an hour if you want me to find yours ..... )

You've inspired me. Just ordered a stash of car mags off eBay.

I'm glad I'm still able to inspire people ....

Just remember tit for tat .... be on the lookout for a bamboo 911 ....

In case you've forgotton the basis of this thread, there were only 2 in the country, so if you find one, there's a 50% chance it's mine .....

I have complete faith in you to fight through all the b/s and come up trumps ....

After all, do you really want to disappoint the one that inspired you? B)

shouldn't be a problem. More concerned with having to wade through all of the bullshit holden ads to find some quality. By the way - what mag titles did you get?

Champs,

It was great talking to you this evening .... I can't believe how similar our stories are about our cars!

As promised, here is an advert for your car being sold in 1988 from a dealer in South Australia .... just to add more coincidence to the story, this dealer sold my car brand new ....

Take note of the wheels and it also mentions air conditioning ....

Bugger me that's $166,000 in today's money so I guess SC's have still got a way to go to get back to their original price.

Looks interesting, almost like cookie cutter wheels? I see by the look in the picture it doesn't have a whale tail, I have a whale tail that came with the car. Would be interested to find out more if there is anyone out there that knows more about the car.

That was the '88 price, not the '81 price

Still a lot of coin. Funny how a 7 year old 911 is still about the same money. Shows the modern a cars have a ways yet to fall.

TurboT

Let me know when you are done with them, I love the old magazines. I expect a full run down on prices and condition (of the cars) so I can start crying as to why I didn't get into the classic car game earlier!!!

A funny story is that I once swapped an original mk1 escort for a mid 70's celica that had been in a crash because I thought the celica looked faster!!!! Crazy now that I think about it!!!!
