Update - Skid Pan and Driver Education Day-SE QLD

Recommended Posts

As of today we have 18 cars/people  that have confirmed interest in the planned day on June 21.

We still 2 spots available but a decision has to be made on whether to proceed by no later than April 30.

If you think you may be interested private message me and I will send you the details. It is not exclusively for Porsche cars so if you know someone that may be interested  pass the information on.

It is guaranteed to be a great day and loads of fun. In addition I want to try to some organise footage for the PFA Crowd Sourcing  video-you could become famous.

  • 2 weeks later...

It is fully booked at this time but because it is not until June 21 then there is always the chance that someone will drop out. If that happens i will put you in as the first reserve.

PM me a email address and I will send you the relevant emails.

Cheers Ken

Not sure how many fron the Sunshine Coast are heading up but I know of a couple so thinking of maybe meeting at the BP Forest Glen northbound at 6.20 for a 6.30 departure. That should give us time for a coffee once we get up there. If there is anyone further north we could pick them up on the way

Good to see you guy's getting organised and Twood putting in the effort to plan a Great day !

Mike has done the same for us in organising Motokhanas and it takes commitment and participation to make these on-going events a brilliant time for Forum members and a great time to enjoy the P drive.

Cheers, Mark.

I have sent the following email to all the participates but I though I would paste it hear for anyone that may be interested.

Morning all- I have just survived the perils of a weekend in Hobart. We were able to boost the Tasmanian economy by a moderate amount (mainly food and drink)and Tasmania rewarded us with clear cool weather for the entire 4 days. Even saw some very nice Porsches but my partner would not allow me to interact because as I was told “Its next weekend where I am allowed to play and talk cars”.

I have had a number of emails over the weekend and will attempt to answer them as best I can. Weather for Gympie for Sunday is 8c-21C with small chance of rain so dress accordingly.

Not everyone is on the PFA forum so I will cut and paste some of the questions and replies:

The Brisbane contingent are meeting at the Caboolture Service Centre at 5.45am so I suggest if the timing is right we call into the BP Forest Glen for your 6.30 departure time

Still dark at 6:30  , what time is the start

Not quite dark but close -Sunrise is 6.37am Start is 8.30at the Roadcraft facility in Gympie-I am looking at being in Gympie by around 8.00am just so we have time for coffee/food fuel top up if necessary

This is going to be so cool. Thanks TWood. Is photography permitted/encouraged?

Photography is permitted and encouraged. Anyone have a drone and camera for some overhead shots?-I have tried to arrange a couple of the people that are  very good photographers from the PFA Forum but at this time none have been able to make it but that could change by Sunday.

Definitely bring a camera as there will be spectators and other drivers that I am only too sure will take shots of you doing that "once in a lifetime" power slide.

Given that it's driver education/training... I assume we don't need helmet and full length clothing etc?

No helmets required but I  do suggest full length comfortable (and warm) clothing. I will be in jeans, shirt,  jacket etc I  would suggest not to drive in thongs J

I was asked about 2nd drivers

Cost was based on cars ($130) so if you have a second driver that would like to have attend that is fine –the only downside will be getting them out of the driver’s seat so you can have a go.

Spectators

No problem just not the entire population of SE Qld and help to with catering etc let me know numbers

Hope that answers all the questions but if I have missed any send me an email.

I will bring some sausages, bread, (and of course tomato and chilli sauce) soft drinks tea coffee and water-there is a BBQ available so feel free to bring your own supplies. Russ has offered to be the BBQ King because we will be too busy driving to leave the facility to pick up food.

DO NOT FORGET A CAMERA

Wow, what a great day! I didn't expect to get as much out of the day as I did. The instructors were fantastic as is the venue.

Well done Ken for organising and being the Sausage King.

Thank you for all the positive comments that keep popping up on my computer. I had a great day and for anyone that missed the day, well, I offer my heartfelt condolences. Everyone seems to have enjoyed the day but if anything could have been improved, I am happy in all confidentially, to receive any comments/observations.

I believe that only driving/damaging incident for the day was to Jason’s shoes – the sole separated from the upper but he was able to find a roll of duct tape to make repairs and continue driving thanks to an owner  of one of the “older”  Porsches-new Porsches don’t carry duct tape.

Please note, any wrong direction I “MAY” have taken was only done to make others feel superior and while picking on me you were leaving other less fortunate individuals (people without 964’s) alone. In both pictures below I “AM” going in the correct direction.

If I organise another day like yesterday I think I will try to do it through a car club and see if I can bring the cost down-if we do it through a car club,  the cost for 20 cars comes down from $2600 to $1250. We would have to add in club membership but still it should be cheaper. As many of you know I was a long term member of PCQ but re-joining will cost me $175, and personally, they are not doing events that I really want to do. Yes, I know I could always do again for PCQ but??? Suggestions of suitable car clubs would be very welcome-I am currently looking at the Northern Districts Car Club where yearly single membership is $30 http://www.ndscc.asn.au/

Everyone please note - In the timed shoot out Caledonian was 1st in class and 2nd overall. Wheel spin, losing my way and general incompetence was my undoing. Did anyone get a photo of his win?

yes thanks for organising such a fun event Ken. It certainly made some of us realise how hopeless we really are

Maybe the next time I could get them to include a navigation course for me.

Fantastic day.  Well done Ken.  I learnt heaps, particularly how my car will behave under severe conditions and discovered it's not that easy to get the back end out in a 997!

It was also great to meet a bunch of new people too!  Count me in next time.
