Shady Speedway Posted 25May, 2015 Report Share Posted 25May, 2015 Thanks to tazzieman I now have this movie stuck in my head. I never knew of it till last night. Filmed by Scott Hicks in 1982 around Adelaide it has a Silver 930 thrashing around South Australia. You tube has the first 15 minutes of the film, but I can not find the rest of it without handing over my credit card details. If anybody has the movie, or is better at extracting movies online. I would love to hear from you. I think the movie is a fairly B grade at best. Though I get a great kick out of the background details. The buildings, cars and local scenery. Takes me straight back to being 8 years old and first laying eyes on a silver 930 here in Adelaide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaEtq-UpxBA MB911 and scashin
Stew F Posted 26May, 2015 Report Share Posted 26May, 2015 Brings back memories. I was a second year apprentice then. Some of it filmed in the old Holden plant at Osborne, where they assembled the imported GM brands back in the day. That EJ that he's driving reminds me of the one I had - used to break down at the lights... I nearly bought that muffler shop on the corner of Grange & Holbrooks Roads in the 90's when it became a Midas Mufflers. Trying to remember where the Porsche dealer was back then. tazzieman
MB911 Posted 26May, 2015 Report Share Posted 26May, 2015 I was 11 years old when it came out and had a strong love of 911's already (Blasphemy in a Holden household), but the 930 sealed the deal. I must have hired that video a dozen times.
Shady Speedway Posted 26May, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 26May, 2015 Thought that muffler shop looked fimiliar. I think Chateau Motors was on Gilbert street in the city about that time?
CarreraG50 Posted 26May, 2015 Report Share Posted 26May, 2015 I've got the paperback at home, had since I was 12, wonder what came first the book or movie (the one I have at home has the movie poster as the front cover)
maddin Posted 26May, 2015 Report Share Posted 26May, 2015 Good luck finding the DVD! I'm on the hunt for that movie (DVD) for over a year and have contacted Umbrella Entertainment and every rare movie shop i know of australiawide without success. It will be available as a download somewhere on the net but getting it on DVD seems to be impossible... I have an australian daybill of the movie which will be framed sometime soon..... let us know if you find it...

1st Posted 29June, 2015 Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 Just saw this post; my daughter is in the director's grandson's class at school. At a kids party over there he and I had a nice chat about Porsche's. The front badge from the Turbo is mounted on the wall with a still image from the movie which prompted the topic. The car was junked over the edge of the cliff between Sellicks and Myponga along with a sedan; Scott said he should hike down there are see what if anything remains, but he did remember the filming of that scene was conditional on removal of the wreck(s).....so somewhere in Adelaide there's potentially a Turbo mock up (it wasn't a 'real' one to go over the edge) wreck..... scashin
Shady Speedway Posted 29June, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 I read your post in another forum when looking at this. Cool inside info. I would like to know mpre about it too.
LeeM Posted 29June, 2015 Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 Pretty sure It was sent over the cliff on the right side of a left hand sweeping bend (heading to Myponga) not that far from the big Shahin mansion (if you know where that is) Might be some sort of car park there I reckon. I was gobsmacked when I first watched the movie and saw it go over the edge. Nooooooooooo!!!!
Shady Speedway Posted 29June, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 Still can't make much sense of the movie?
LeeM Posted 29June, 2015 Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 Yeah, I seem to recall it was a bit weird. It had a Porsche in it, so at the time I was happy to watch it
Shady Speedway Posted 29June, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 29June, 2015 I'm glad I didn't see it back in the day. I would have spent my youth in an envious rage. A 930 and a blonde.Lucky for me I have both now. I can watch the movie at ease.
LeeM Posted 4August, 2017 Report Share Posted 4August, 2017 Bump this thread up, as I need to relive my youth! Anyone have a copy?
