I've just deleted a long rant as it can be summarised like this;

This car annoys me greatly, it's a complete reflection of the changing Porsche demographic.

Sorry, there I said it................

Why anyone would want to pay more for a car that will be slower than the GT3, looks worse than the GT3 and is put together partially by left over parts before Porsche switches to the 991.2 cars has me bamboozled. I get the 6 speed manual thing, people want it. Its fairly obvious Porsche are playing on this by cleverly releasing this model variant before they once again offer manual in the 991.2 GT3.

This is being anticipated as a special, special car, whereas I think it will be quickly forgotten, along with the 997 sport classic (no offence to anyone on here who owns one of those cars).

Completely agree.............

When I first read an article about it I honestly thought it was a well crafted joke - not sure if its funnier or not now knowing they were serious. :blink:

Porsche marketing department need to earn their keep somehow I guess and there seems to be no shortage of people prepared to buy into it.

It will take another GFC to keep Porsche marketing honest.

Till then........

Last I heard they were all allocated even before the general public knew about it? Apparently the 918 owners got the first bite so probably not much left over after that.

I think it's genius building a lightweight model with gt3 driveline under an R badge- gt3 needs its pdk to stay top tier with the competition, but the R, like the Cayman, they can play around with models that have less of an expectation of them for outright speed..

and unfortunately like the 997 sc they then cripple themselves out of a future classic by making it limited numbers and pricing it out of the market of any rational human being, who will then go and buy a gt3 instead

I'm really hoping for a Cayenne R, 7 speed, GT3 wheels for high speed caravan holidays.  Irony is if they did it they'd probably sell it!

I dunno about that? Purist might get upset at lack of manual! ? (assuming you mean PDK by 7 speed)

So Ive put in a deposit on this imaginary car the other week. Its a each way bet in my mind.  But dealer updated info as follows (take it as you will):  manual, different aero to compensate for lack of rear wing. Indicative price somewhere between GT3 and RS. Two colour option (?), detuned RS engine.  Units here allocated to RS wait list (given no 918 owners), hoping for market share proportion being around 10-15 in country at best. Also noted possible further Aus allocation of RS vehicles being touted for next year.

Porsche

They have really mastered the art of giving their customers blue balls.
