Pfitz911 Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 So I'm driving to work last Friday up through the Adelaide hills on the freeway. For those of you who know Adelaide, I live in Highgate, and my physio practice is in Gawler about an hour away. On my "Porsche" days I like to take the extra long way up through verdun, lobethal, kersbrook etc. Anyway, I've just taken the Hahndorf exit on the freeway at verdun and the clutch pedal looses all resistance!! Cable obviously has detached, so I pull over on the side of the road, jack it up and start fixing it...then I hear the distant rumblings of engines...Ferrari engines!!!turns out I was on the road where all the classic Adelaide cars were coming through on their way to the first stage!! Some beautiful Rs 911s, jim Richards in his gt4. Vern Schupan in his merc!!of course, by this stage the car was off the jack, so they were none the wiser that I had broken down! Has to be the most enjoyable breakdown I've ever experienced !!!!!

Nice drive though.I occasionally work in the Barossa Valley (Nuri). From Littlehampton I take the Woodside, Loby, Gumeracha, Forreston, Williamstown, Lyndoch, Tanunda route. When the weather is nice I sometimes take my 911. Some nice roads between Forreston & Williamstown, then the bit between Lyndoch and Rowland Flat. Pfitz911 Posted 21October, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 I do have a photo but it doesn't seem to let me post it. Anyway I'd suggest those roads are amongst the best twisted in Australia!
MFX Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 I was watching the Anstey hill stage on Saturday morning and there was some nice metal. Every time I come back to SA and drive the roads through the hills I realise I need to move back some day. Also looking at what my NSW property dollar would buy in the Adelaide hills is another factor pulling me back.
Tit Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 I second that. Some of the best roads in Australia in dem dar hills!

Well next time you're back in Adelaide yell out.Problem with a lot of our roads, and it's been mentioned before I'm sure, is they have reduced the speed limits to 80 km/h. Some warranted, some not. Mind you, 10 minutes from my place, on the other side of Nairne, it opens up to 100 all the way to Murray Bridge.
MFX Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 I am doing some reno's in Woodside until Thursday next week. I grew up in Mt Barker Springs, and my family are still around the hills so I come back a few times a year, but I always fly these days because the drive is painful. In NSW they are all well sign posted ( even the mobile ones) well ahead of time and you have to be blind to get done.
Pfitz911 Posted 21October, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 Let us know when y'all in Adelaide . I'm sure I could manage an hour or three for good coffee/beer and endless conversations about Porsches!! Yeah some of the roads have been reduced to 80. I'm devastated the one tree hill scenic rd has gone from 100 to 80. Never see any cops mind you, but I guarantee when I decide to put my foot down... PhilH Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 Sounding like a good drive through the hills is in order in the not too distant future!
spiller Posted 21October, 2015 Report Share Posted 21October, 2015 I'd definitely be up for a good SMT soon now that the weather is consistently nice.Im moving up to Stirling in November and can't wait to have these roads in the back yard I need to study the routes! I'll have a nice drive to Meadows for work once per fortnight and will have to make those the Porsche days.

Phil, I was going to try and organise something for Sunday but I have to go interstate for work now. Not back till the following Saturday night, then off to tasmania on the Sunday morning. MFX Posted 22October, 2015 Report Share Posted 22October, 2015 That's the ones. Until I touched them they probably hadn't been touched since the 70's. Back to Porsches. It is good to see that if/when I move back there is a good PFA SA contingent to slot into.
