Tyre Pressures

Pork Chops

Recommended Posts

I just got some tyres for my 18" turbo twist rims for the Carrera S.  I elected to buy a sizes up with the rears being 295/30 and the fronts being 235/40, as these will also fit my GT3 rims.  They're a little baggy / fat as you can imagine but nothing extreme.  With this type of fitment I'm wondering what the idea tyre pressure would be to run?  You'd think if they were too inflated the middle may wear faster than the shoulders.  Factory pressures for the 18" wheels is 44 rear and 36 front.

Pics attached as what is a thread without pics.

Many thanks.

What tyres are they?

When I first installed my new Yokohama AD08R's in the same sizes (996 GT3) I ran about 40# tyre pressures, the car felt greasy on the road... not good at all!

After some discussion on Rennlist I was advised to drop the pressures down to about 30 Front and 31 Rear... I did that and the car feels great now! I generally keep about 32 # F&R in them though... have not noticed any adverse tyre wear.

That is a SEXY beast by the way... you have good taste in cars. :)

I've been lead to believe that a lot of those comparably high factory quoted tyre pressures are more in tune with european conditions involving high speed runs on autobahns and other highways. Probably not applicable to AU conditons. Somewhere between 32 and 35 on the rear and 30-32 on the front should do it.
