JAX57 Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Hi GuysJust got my baby registered under the new historic 60 day log bog trial for NSW. Finally NSW have come in line with what Victoria have been doing for years. If yours is 30 years and older you stand save a significant amount of rego,CTP and normal insurance. Today all in costs excluding Shannons, which is discounted 40% off the original, was only $93.-. This is the cost of the number plate, rego and CTP. The only drawback is the look of crappy white with purple letters number plate. You need to be a member of a registered car club and also if they are participating in the trial. The logbook is a A4 sheet of paper that's need to be filled in every time you go for a drive, no restrictions how long or how far. If you don't than the fines are hefty. For me it was a no brainer as 60 days per year is quiet sufficient.cheersJack
ByronBayChris Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Ditto. Got mine yestwrday, switched insurance today back to Shannon's and then put those fugly plates on the car.Bad size. Bad colour. Good savings.

MFX Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 What are the modification restrictions? That would be perfect for my RSR clone when I am done if they allow it...
ByronBayChris Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 It's gotta be fairly original.
MFX Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 It's gotta be fairly original.Mine will be cosmetically different, but at least to start with will still have the 2.7. Hmmm, I think I will have to do a bit more research...
ByronBayChris Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 You are allowed to upgrade safely items, but the car needs to remain the same as delivered. That's what my car club guy told me.However, its self policing at the moment. I signed my forms to say my car was compliant. No rms checks. I would only have an issue if the police checked (o wont have a problem as im bog standard)All i say to all is "dont f$&k it up for the rest of us" Cosmetically different would be far easier to approve over an engine swap. Read up on the rms website.
JAX57 Posted 23October, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Well said Chris let's try and take advantage of this and make it happen. Keep in mind it is a trial. If it fails then we can kiss the enormous savings goodbye.Or move to Victoria

MFX Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Ah. From reading that link the modified historic vehicle trial starts early next year. I look forward to seeing what they sort out for the criteria.
JAX57 Posted 23October, 2015 Author Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 The only challenge at this stage is some RMS/Service NSW staff are not all up to date. I did get the occasional " why is there air?" look when enquiring about the trial.
Peter M Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Jack,Can you just clarify the safety check process for me please?I can either get the registered club "responsible adult" to certify the vehicle is safe or if more convenient, continue to get pink slips annually to prove it's roadworthy?ThanksPeter

My club was recognised but had not initially applied to become a participant. the RMS website shows a PDF file with a YES/No if that is the case.hope this helpscheersJack
Peter M Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 Thanks Jack.I see Porsche Club NSW is a participating club so for many of us who are already members there is one less step to take in the rego changeover.
Dreamr Posted 23October, 2015 Report Share Posted 23October, 2015 I think the big questions for all of us that aren't members of clubs are .....Can you just join a club to get the concessional rego?Do you just ring a club and say " I want to join so I can get historic plates"?Also, can you join the historic Ford club because they want to boost their member numbers and are the only club that will let you use and abuse the system ..... or does it have to be a Porsche based club?ARRRRGH ..... so many questions ... my head hurts! Peter M Posted 24October, 2015 Report Share Posted 24October, 2015 Ronny,I was hoping you would be the strong studious one to lead the way for us local guys! You can download a list from the RMS trial site that indicates who's participating and who is not. Click on the second last FAQ in the General section to get to the link. Whether any of the local clubs accept your application is another question though! ByronBayChris Posted 24October, 2015 Report Share Posted 24October, 2015 I joined rhe Byron Bay Car Club in order to get my plates. Cost me a small number of coins ro join that club, then $95 (i think) to rma.I had my Clubs responsible adult sign the the form. But I actually signed the purple form confirming all the vin and safety details.

The PCNSW is not the cheapest either.take a Bex and a lie down, perhaps a nice scotch
