Blue964 Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 So I have never seen an F40 in person until this morning. My local Ferrari dealer has an F40 sitting right in the middle of the showroom so I took the opportunity to drop in and check it out. I have to say the F40 look has aged really well and it still looks an amazing car today. Some Ferrari models really haven't aged well at all IMHO. I thought I would try my luck and ask the sales guy if he could fire up the F40, luckily for me the sales guy I was talking to was the owner of the dealership so he said sure. Bloody amazing sounding car! One thing I will admit about Ferraris is that no other car (even a P-car) comes close to sounding as good as a Fezza. I'm not normally a big fan of Ferrari, but I would be more than happy to find room in my garage for an F40.
LeeM Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 I think anyone would be happy to have an F40 in their garage! I'd eventually swap it for a 250 Lusso though, but thats me
Raven Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 Agreed they are a timeless classic and sports car icon regardless of what marque you follow the F40 appeals to all ,,,I would take one over a new Ferrari any day...............I had the pleasure of sitting in one once at a Ferrari charity day many years age and was total spell bound with the Spartan no nonsense interior ,,,,,A proper race car for the road ............... edgy Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 I saw my first one when I was 16..... I stood there and looked at it for what felt a long time! Those twin intercoolers sitting below that vented see through engine cover, the waste gate that vents to atmosphere, the sheer insanity of it all! ? Being an 80's child It's the car I had models of and posters on my wall. I still think its the best supercar of all time... I know the 959 rivals it as a technical package but it's fugly by conparison!

I just think classic cars have a history and feel that NO new car can provide. Feeling nostalgic, when you imagine what a classic car or its previous owners have gone through over the years, and I always look at my 912 thinking that, it commands a respect that no newer car can, or ever will, possess. Yeah, I'd love a Cayman GT4 or GT3RS, yet if given an amount of cash to buy new or old, old will win every time

True I am.Yeah, turning 50 in a few weeks has me feeling all nostalgic! Sad isnt it I only had the same converstaion with a bloke that wants to swap his Cayman for my 912 a few days ago. New vs old, what is better? He agreed with my love for old cars. Saying that, if I WAS to sell my car when its all done and on the road, I will probably buy a Cayman to still own a Porsche, yet will have to have some sort of old car, probably an MGB GT in the driveway too. I just love the history that surrounds old cars

clutch-monkey Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 EB110 is a touch awkward looking. (diablo fan over here)959 is plain/ugly, which is disappointing because the 961 proved they COULD have made it look good..
DJM Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 Believe it or not my brother and I saw an F40 at a track day at PHillip Island maybe mid 90s. Some rich dood with glamour girlfriend. Still remember that like it was yesterday, he was pedalling hard to impress her, fell in love that day (with the car not the girl - she's no doubt old and wrinkly F40 just as cool)

hugh Posted 31October, 2015 Report Share Posted 31October, 2015 I saw an F40 last week parked within view of a white on white 959 (Motorclassica). Maybe it's the White on white (as I'm pretty taken by that personally) but there is something strangely alluring about the awkward proportions of the 959 - I couldn't help being drawn in.............I'm well aware that I'm in the minority though! MFX Posted 1November, 2015 Report Share Posted 1November, 2015 The F40 is a classic, fantastic looking, and by all accounts a fantastic raw drivers car, but dare I say it, I think I would prefer an 85 Countach in my garage (if I could only have one or the other). I know it is supposed to be an uncomfortable POS, but that was the car on my bedroom wall. I have a mate with a Diabolo and it is just not as raw as the Countach in my book.
