Pfitz911 Posted 5November, 2015 Report Share Posted 5November, 2015 Just about to tackle the task of adjusting valves for the first time. Only put brad penn oil in 2 months ago so my question is do I need to drain oil before, or can I wing it and take covers off without. I realise I will get a bit of leakage, but being a dry sump I wouldn't have thought it would matter. Wayne's book tell me to drain before.just about to order my gaskets...any preferences you guys have? It's a 2.7 and I believe I still have magnesium covers ( could be aluminium) but presently not much leaking going on.thanks as always gents
tazzieman Posted 5November, 2015 Report Share Posted 5November, 2015 Jack one side up a bit and oil drip will be minimal. Gravity at work.Make sure your covers are flat ; you can sand them on a piece of glass to true them up. As long as they are in reasonable shape and you don't overtorque the nuts , a standard gasket should be fine. If not you can pay more for the silicone ones. I'm liking the simplicity of backsideYou can do that , or normal method and check with the backside one. I think the special valve lash tool Pelican were selling would be a useful addition ; next time I'll get one of those. Some guys here bought some and reckoned they worked well.
