AC78 Posted 6November, 2015 Report Share Posted 6November, 2015 Team, I have a spare engine lid I'm wanting to paint up and put on the car in place of the current whale tail. As the metallic paint will be very difficult to match I am debating making a bit of a feature panel of it but can't decide on colour. Any thoughts? The spare lid is silver, (was thinking of maybe putting some martini stripes down the centre), but every idea I come up starts to feel lame after a few days. Would love some suggestions. michel Posted 6November, 2015 Report Share Posted 6November, 2015 AC - break out the rattle can and muck about. Have photoshop skills? My lids black come and nab it for a day and see what you think Green ain't going to be as hard as silver to match - what about some janis inspired graphic? hugh Posted 6November, 2015 Report Share Posted 6November, 2015 Maybe worth looking at a wrap? You could get the rear deck lid wrapped and get the bonnet to match - if you don't like it just peel it off. I'd be thinking a matt/satin black could look good on the mid 911, black fuch centres, rubbers etc. It would look a bit odd just with treatment on the rear lid, needs to be tied into the rest of the car IMO. Stickers are an easy and effective way to achieve a new 'look' and is easily reversible.

LeeM Posted 7November, 2015 Report Share Posted 7November, 2015 Yep, reckon you'd need the lettering to break it up a bit. Think a PFA sponsor does them too

SteveT Posted 7November, 2015 Report Share Posted 7November, 2015 I have the same dilemma, except my car is metal flake black already so Matt black probably won't look that good. Magnus has inspired all sorts of mix and match, just need to paint a few other panels to match the rear deck lid and we have started a whole new trend! LeeM Posted 7November, 2015 Report Share Posted 7November, 2015 Theres a 911 thats gloss black with matt black stripes which looks awesome. Will try and find a pic. As for the green pics above, I thought of doing the hood similar, yet reversed. Black in the centre if ya know what I mean?
SteveT Posted 7November, 2015 Report Share Posted 7November, 2015 As my car was originally Viper Green I had thoughts of painting the deck lid in that colour. Then match up the bumpers and front boot lid with the body and doors in the black. Match up a side decal in Viper Green and voila, instant case of make me want to barf up my breakfast! Airhead Posted 8November, 2015 Report Share Posted 8November, 2015 Get a custom wrap for the lid that extends over the guards a bit that makes it look like an engine fire has occurred.
