monty188 Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 My ignition switch is definitely worn. It looks all it needs are new tumblers.Where is the best place to get a new switch?. What the process for changing over to the new switch ? Do I need to visit my local Porsche Dealer ($$$$ shudder) Can a replacement switch match my existing key?The Bentley manual is decidedly light on details. Coastr Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 Switch and lock are two separate pieces. You want the lock, which was $1500 last time I checked. Switch plugs into the back of the lock and is $150. It will not match your existing key and comes with a new key. You would have to get your other locks rekeyed to match.101 projects for porsche 911 has a section on rekeying but I understand the kits are NLA. Not sure if a specialist auto locksmith can refurb based on generic parts or not. Something on my todo list because I have mismatching door/ignition key locks. Dreamr Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 I also have 2 x separate keys Coastr .... I'm not sure why, but I thought they were delivered like that?
Coastr Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 If you read Wayne's book multiple keys are common but not original. The ignition locks can and do fail (I had to bodge mine after receiving sticker shock), plus door locks get the old 'hammer and screwdriver' treatment when someone leaves $2.75 in loose change in the console.i would have three keys if I actually had one for the passenger door. Russ Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 I also have 2 x separate keys Coastr .... I'm not sure why, but I thought they were delivered like that?is one red and one black? red is usually the valet key that doesn't unlock the glovebox (or boot if you have the locking mechanism option) and black does everything

But John at ZAG automotive has second hand ones with the key for about $500.I got ZAGs lock barrel and had my mechanic send it to a locksmith so it would work with my original key. Works great now!You dont need to have your other locks rekeyed just send the new lock barrel and your original key to a locksmith of your choice.Just give John from ZAG automotive a callhttp://www.zagautomotive.com.au/contact/Hope this helps. Stew F Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 I've seen tumbler kits on ebay recently. Any competent locksmith should be able to make it all come together.
T-Man Posted 11November, 2015 Report Share Posted 11November, 2015 Suffered with this some 3 years ago. Key would get stuck and not turn. Very concerning when you are far from home. Brake cleaner and lock lube. No issue since. http://www.callasrennsport.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Ignition-Locks.pdf http://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/578085-ignition-switch-lock-stuck.html
