tazzieman Posted 14November, 2015 Report Share Posted 14November, 2015 Having unearthed a superb Mercedes Classic resto vid , I thought it would be useful and inspiring to start a thread of the "best of the best"in terms of resto garages. For those of us that get down and dirty with out own cars , and for those that wonder why it takes thousands of hours for a pro to deconstruct and rebuild , here's a chance to celebrate the fine art of classic auto manufacture. No robots allowed!Excuse the German commentary , you don't need it for the purposes of this vid:
LeeM Posted 15November, 2015 Report Share Posted 15November, 2015 For Porsche resto, there's a pommy guy, (Peter something) that has video'd from start to finish, all the good and bad that he has come across doing an old 911. Very boring guy to listen too, but seems to know what he's doing as an amateur in his shed. Will try and upload a link later
Stew F Posted 15November, 2015 Report Share Posted 15November, 2015 Auto Restoration Videos on YouTube. If you can get past the guy's Noo Joisey accent, and the fact that he's a bit of a dick, the subject matter is worth the pain.

Harvs11 Posted 15November, 2015 Report Share Posted 15November, 2015 ...'Petermorgan911''Autobahn Eugene' has a good 930 engine rebuild.Gunnar Racing put up some good gear too.Matt the Master Technician at Autobahn Eugene is a bit light on detail. Ok for a "get to know what's in your engine's innards" video. I also had a couple of cringe moments watching him reassemble the 930 motor. On the other hand, Nick Fulljames gives an excellent description of the processes, pitfalls and tips while rebuilding Peter Morgan's 2.7 engine. This one's a favourite. Not your traditional resto, more like the result of a few beers after work and some very ambitious car building lads with plenty of piss taking.Project Binky
MFX Posted 15November, 2015 Report Share Posted 15November, 2015 That German vid is great, and when I have a bit of time I think I will watch the Mini's progress. Makes my build videos look even more pathetic. But I will keep doing them anyway...
Pfitz911 Posted 15November, 2015 Report Share Posted 15November, 2015 Matt the master technician!!! I did laugh when I saw that. Ive watched his videos several times to get more info (I will be attempting my own 2.7 build some time in the future and having minimal experience, I need as much help as I can get!!)My wife is getting me a 964 rebuild video (I emailed the guy and he suggested basics are the same as 2,7) for Christmas, Some great diy videos on youtube also...It never ceases to amaze me how willing people are to share info, and how quick wankers will bag them in the comments section!!If you havent seen the last part of the Eugene 930 build, its pretty awkward to watch (when he drives off in the car and gives the camera a wink!!). I figure if nerds like Matt are able to rebuild a porsche engine, theres hope for me. Perhaps Ill change my profile name to "Dan,,,master technician", has a nice James bond feel to it. Stew F Posted 29November, 2015 Report Share Posted 29November, 2015 I was researching info on carbon fibre for a project and came across this video on how to make a timber wheel rim. Quite interesting. The narration is basic, but explains it well.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNB7XcpNAWs
Tit Posted 29November, 2015 Report Share Posted 29November, 2015 We've (the wife and I) been watching Project Binky since the first episode. The 3-4 month waits between episodes is torture! I just watched them a week ago. That guys is amazingly OCD. I would love to have the patience to do a build like that. Can't wait for the next update.
