Steve88 Posted 19November, 2015 Report Share Posted 19November, 2015 Hey guys just another quick try at getting some advice .Ive got original Fuchs on my car currently but they have been polished at some point in their life . I don't like this look and would like to spray them black leaving the silver lip . Has anyone done this before and has any suggestions . I have spoken to the powder coaters next door and they said yes they can but i have to mask the polished area i wish to keep with heat-proof tape ( 3m Green ) . Should i worry about bleeding , running or flaking when I pull the mask off ?Price to powdercoat$5 to remove each tire per wheel from the tire place $15 each wheel to powder$5 to reattach the wheels $65 for a wheel alignment Masking Tape ????So maybe about $200 all up . I think its pretty cheap . Thoughts anyone ??Otherwise I was going to spray them with a rattle can . 2 Pack paint may cost around the same .What would you guys choose ? chris_f Posted 19November, 2015 Report Share Posted 19November, 2015 I'd recommend taking them to a reputable panel beater or wheel repairer and using a two pack paint. Original Fuchs are worth quite a bit, so it's worth doing it properly. The paint shop that did my car powder-coated my RUF wheels but weren't happy with the surface finish. So they ended up spraying them. There is also some debate about whether or not powder-coating fatigues the metal of the wheel.
Rob Posted 19November, 2015 Report Share Posted 19November, 2015 Just a little curious as to why you've included a wheel alignment in the cost of refurbishing the wheels? I agree with Chris re using a pro spray painter if you don't have the skills yourself. Fuchs are too valuable these days to do a second rate job on... firstone Posted 19November, 2015 Report Share Posted 19November, 2015 Hmmm, where did I see that video of the guy that figured out to dip the wheels to get a line to tape to?Painful job either way.I'd go for a wheel refinish place that has done these before. 09ELF Posted 20November, 2015 Report Share Posted 20November, 2015 For me: powder coat > paintOr DIY with rattle can.. turns out like crap then just get it sandblasted and repainted.. No real damage or additional cost.
