Insurance - agreed value. Yep, it's that time of year again!

so, once again it is that time of year for me to shop around for insurance.   As usual, the pricing (for full comp and CTP greenslip) is varied and there are huge differences between the offers.  Thing is, I can't seem to find anyone that will insure my 1990 964 for more than 35K.

Given that it is fully comprehensive insurance that I am looking at - I want to insure the car for replacement value - and i do NOT agree that 35K would even come close to that !   So, I would be interested to hear from others out there.  Does anyone actually have a full comprehensive policy that will replace the car for it's (current) value if it is written off or stolen?   I'll grant you that 35K would fix most things though !

I recently went through similar situation for my 930 as I use it daily, so wanted full comp insurance. I was well underinsured in current market.

Shannons/Ryno/usual players wouldn't give me the cover I wanted at the value I wanted because either I drive it daily or it isn't locked in a garage all the time.

So I rang Porsche Insurance (which is really just a broker) who understood current crazy market and organised me cover with MB Insurance within half an hour, provided I got a third party valuation. I took it to RSR Garage who valued it, which MB Insurance accepted, job done. I effectively doubled my cover for a 15% premium rise. Give Porsche Insurance a call (I used Melbourne, but presume there is a NSW office) and see if they can sort something out for you.

I'm currently insured with Ryno and they too also understand the Porsche / air cooled market.

Only 6 weeks ago I upped my insurance by $20k and it is now insured for $85k. I think their scope was up to $105k for an SC.

If the car is written off, they will pay out the sum insured and I get the wreck as well.

If you want to give them a call, let me know and I'll give you the name of the guy I deal with who really does know what is happening out there.

I am with Ryno. They advised the price to insure it for and I get full payout if stolen etc and keep the car if totally wrecked.

they were easy to deal with, knew the current market and only wanted photos to see the condition of the car.

I went through a similar thing with my 964 in September. I'm with Porsche insurance also who were very good (Joe).

I'm only insured for $75k though even though replacement value for my Aus delivered C4 would be $90-100k (although $75k was my suggestion at the time). I'm sure I could have got more if I had have asked.

You are always able to ring up mid policy and change your insured amount ....

I upped mine by $20k about 6 weeks after renewing my policy and it cost me an extra $57 ...... well worth it in my opinion.

I've always maintained that insurance is a way to replace what was damaged / lost .... not half of it.

I went through a broker (the protectors) and ended up with MB Insurance, underwritten by QBE

Insured for what it cost to build...a tad more than 35k

It should be insured for what it would cost to replace it on todays market .... my opinion only.

You wouldn't be left with much to replace it with if the unthinkable were to happen.
