1975 911 Targa 3.2?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm interested in the opinions of those "in the know" on the early Porsche models..

This car must have a transplanted 3.2? As didn't they come standard with a 2.7?..

I love the look but I'm thinking it's overpriced. From memory it was up with a price tag of around $36k originally but then was pulled pretty quickly and slapped with a re-price at $60k..

Anybody care to comment on their knowledgable opinion regarding fair value for this particular car?

Its been up for sale for a while now..

Also I'm interested to hear advantages/disadvantages of owning this model from those with experience.

Thanks.

I found this old Shannon's auction on a 3.2 with supercharger.. $40k 5 years ago.. One would suggest that was a good investment purchase at the time.. (Not sure how many kms)

Not a 75 and this 75 has no supercharger..

I know completely different and 5 years under the bridge since that 3.2 auction.. So..

Im thinking $45k-$50k approx value but I'm completely in "guessing" territory with that..

Anyhow if anybody has comments on the realistic value of the 75 please feel free to comment. Thx

So with my limited knowledge this car can't be an SC or a Targa.. I think I found the same car which was originally in Melbourne in 2014 & now in Sydney in 2015. I wonder if anybody on PFA knows this car at all.. Seems the dealer is either using key words or isn't really clued in maybe.. Not sure..

You can't compare an auction from 5 years ago to todays prices .... it was a different time and the Porsche market was also a lot different.

As JamesP pointed out above, resale on a modified car will be a lot more difficult .... in 2010, modified was not only fine, but probably sought after. The trend has now changed and originality is all the rage.

That particular car is also advertised as a Targa, but is clearly a convertible. In 1975, convertibles didn't exist, so it has clearly undergone some major modifications aside from just the body panels.

You are also correct about the engine transplant .... there were no 3.2's in 1975 so it's probably  from 1984 - 1989....

As far as value .... I can't help you there ..... I have no interest in buying or owning a modified car and dont know or understand that market .... that is probably best left to those that know that market.

Not quite right ....

It could have been a Targa .... it was possible and was done on a number of cars to convert a Targa to a Convertible ....

You are right about the SC though ..... they didnt exist until 1978 .....

Thanks for that. I appreciate it. I really don't know much about the old air cooled cars but I'm slowly learning..

Mine is an 02 gen 2 man black/black aero with factory sport lowered suspension "unmolested" but that car has such an appeal to me for whatever reason I don't know!!

So many variations of the early cars..

It presents beautifully in the pics but more like a $40k car max I'm thinking given mods.. Scratching my head.. No wonder I'm getting confused!

Welcome to the world of Porsche .....

Everyone likes / dislikes something different about them .... no-one is right or wrong (except me who is always right) .....

In regards to learning about the old aircooled models .... there is a ton of information on this sight as well as all over the net.

You could read for months and still find out something new. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't know .... there are people on here who are gurus and are always willing to help where possible.

Good luck in your search for an aircooled car .....

Sounds like my Stockmarket trading lifestyle..

There's always more to learn and you aren't always right..

Seems the car did come from Melbourne though as my search on the net seemed to indicate.. Backed up by the current licence plate surround in the pics.. Devil is in the detail sometimes. Not that that's a bad thing though.. Just helps to track down info..

cheers

Geeze, that's quite an odd car to price...........I'd say they would be silly to knock back an offer of 40-45k - the sum of its parts would be worth that but not much more to most people.

60k is pretty optimistic, even in the current heated 911 climate. Originally being a 75 they are not hugely desirable + its had it's roof chopped off + updated body + updated engine + updated interior etc. etc. Just make sure you get someone who knows these cars to check it out for you, that's the best advice I can give.

Lot of bull sheet going on - with this one

I rekon :  vin 9115300188 decodes as an early 75 S 173hp coupe - is a fake for this car.

Even in the old days nobody cut the roof off a coupe as it was sooo easy to convert a low value Targa.

If Vin is on car, it could have been a rebirth (worst case scenario = stolen??)
