Snowman Posted 10December, 2015 Report Share Posted 10December, 2015 So as of the 2016 4cyl era Boxsters and Caymans will now be called 718's instead. Not 100% sure if the Cayman and Boxster names will even remain or if it will just be the 718 Coupe and Cabriolet going forwards. Apparently they will also be changing the price structures as well with the Boxsters to now be more expensive than their Cayman equivalents. Interesting times. Redracn Posted 11December, 2015 Report Share Posted 11December, 2015 I doubt many who actually like the WRX sound will pony up the $ for a flat 4 porker. My lower limit is 6 cylinders regardless of the small (when driven to church) fuel consumption advantage. In fact Turbos when driven hard use more fuel for the same power than an NA due to the need to run rich to keep the really hot parts a bit cooler and fend of detonation. So if you like a bit of a fang then the line that turbos are more econimical is a load of }%%##. Power cost fuel and turbo power costs more fuel than NA. But by using a bit less fuel in irrelevant to the real world government test gets them a big gold star. Rant over but a flat 4 cylinder? Really! Redracn Posted 15December, 2015 Report Share Posted 15December, 2015 Fair enough when you make do with what you have and are starting out but deliberately going backwards? As long as they do a 718 GT4 RS 4.0 @1380kg all will be forgiven. If not then Porsche will be nothing more than another luxury car company selling to the eco-conscious suit and tie.

Redracn Posted 15December, 2015 Report Share Posted 15December, 2015 Don't get me wrong the early cars deserve their reputation and are fantastic cars with a lot of history. But to try and trade on that now is just a PR job to try and spin their position to try and gain acceptance for going 4cylinder now.If you set the criteria that fuel consumption and Political Correctness were not an issue and you can build the best sports car you can today what would it be? Howling flat six NA or turbo four (WRX) what would they build? Falcon ECO boost?
IXELEVEN Posted 15December, 2015 Report Share Posted 15December, 2015 Cayman and Boxster names will remain. They will be prefixed by 718.Example:Porsche 718 Cayman GTS (Internal: 981)just like...Porsche 911 Carrera GTS (Internal: 991)Makes sense.

sandy468 Posted 28January, 2016 Report Share Posted 28January, 2016 I think they got the body style right although doesn't look too much different to the last series - hard to improve on a beautiful design....these days they all look a similar, thinking Aston vantage Jag F types (coupes which look like Toyota 86's).... But it still looks quintessentially Porsche which stands out to me .""The similarly specified 718 Boxster S has official figures of 4.2sec and 285km/h,"" Geez step back a couple of years and that's Carerra S speed! How fast will they be going in 10 years 0 - 100 in 3.5?
