BMW M3 v8

Recommended Posts

All I know is, I LOVE mine and it's probably my only daily car that I've kept longer than 12 months.

Is it a manual?

I was reading they going to be collectable as people want the V8 motor

I have seen 1 or 2 around 2011 low kms $80k  4 door,

not sure about auto or manual

What would they of cost new I saw one add said $190k ??

Mines a manual 2 door, the cost brand new was $180,000 whilst the 4 door was slightly cheaper at $160,000.

It also depends on what options the car has etc...

Do you enjoy driving it as a daily drive?

I would be selling a  tax deductible Hilux .... lol

and use the M3 as a daily drive and forgo the tax benefits I think well worth the sacrifice:rolleyes:

just to chime in, I have a manual one as a daily driver also.  I love it and don't think I would ever sell it.

if you are looking for one, I suggest going for one with Electronic Damper Control, so you can soften or stiffen the ride according to your conditions.

also mine is completely stock and I still enjoy the exhaust note.

Do you think kms plays a big roll , worth trying to find something under 60000km? and also year made

I bought mine with 40km and now have 115km

only one major expense has popped up: a throttle control actuator went on one bank. Cost was around $3k to replace.

otherwise, I would say buy on condition don't be too worried about kms.

also do your homework, some of the "pure edition" models imho are are simply less optioned versions, so no damper/power/steering control.

i have test driven my car against a current 6cyl turbo m4, the m4 is definitely quicker, but not as engaging to drive.

oh no! Mine just went and it runs on safe mode which is annoying... Did yours do the same thing? I've just reached 55,000kms

yep, went into limp mode one evening when I was halfway between Sydney and Canberra.  I got to the closest servo and called a tow truck to get me home.  Pretty hairy being limited to 35-40km/h on a highway at night with trucks roaring past you.

mine hapened around 90,000kms.

I think they have a while before they bottom out price wise. E46's are highly loved, last NA I6 M3 which still looks fantastic today and they are in the mid $20s now. The last of I6 M cars just aren't holding their value like everyone expected. I think the v8 will follow the same path until much much further into the future when people realize they are a bargain and clean models will be harder to find.

I used to own a Z4 M Coupe and it was a fantastic car. It should be a classic, last of the I6 M cars, had CSL parts, low production numbers, killer looks, raw driving experience, but even they are cheap today.

m coupes are not that cheap?  I thought they had bottomed out.

e90s still have a ways to fall and aren't going to go up from 90k. Yes, kms is key to price.

the e30 m3 is the gold standard collectible m car and they languished cheap for 20 years before climbing.

M5s are still bargain territory regardless of year.

ultimately the issue is that there is always something more collectible competing with the m cars.  Like 911s, which were always pure sports cars.  M cars are still tarted up sedans/coupes and haven't had a true Motorsport link for 25 years.  I love them but I wouldn't foresee strong price growth.  All you could hope for is slower than Camry depreciation.

E30 M3 s were all LHD , prices have jumped in the last 6 months

E36 M3's will probably always be the unloved sibling, as they looked the same as every other 3 series.

In my book, the E46 is definitely the next classic . That is the one to keep a look out for and to squirrel away now. (particularly if you can find a good manual version). I had an E46 (not an M3 unfortunately) years ago, and I loved it.

I ran an E46 M3 for 110k miles in the UK, had it for just over 3 years. Stunning car for the money at the time and had it not gone very expensively wrong just out of warranty, I'd have probably put 150k on it easily. Great fun, brakes were a bit shit when put to the test on the welsh roads but for everyday use, they're great. Engine sounds awesome as it pings round the rev counter, must admit I kicked the shit out of mine damn near everyday just to hear it at flat stick in 6th gear.

Just stick with the manual box if you can find one.

Just took my M3 in to sort out the Throttle Actuator problem and they said that both are gone!!! $6500 bill!!!!!!!!

yep, I go to an independent and when I was told the cost he qualified it with "it is an M3 you know"

I had e46 m3 and e92 m3, both in manual form. Chose to keep the e92 m3 when moving over to Perth over the 912 (Company only paid for 1 vehicle relocation).

Should have kept the 912 but the e92 was a brilliant car. Would buy another one, with the actuators done!

The price of BMW spares is criminal. I'm still feeling the sting of a $3k service on our 120i.

If you have the skills, or know someone who does, there are cheaper solutions.
