Coastr Posted 14December, 2015 Report Share Posted 14December, 2015 Stamp duty is collected by the state gov and is the same for all new registrations, no difference for imports.vehicles imported under 30 years old attract a 5% import duty and then 10% gst on top of that. Any vehicle over the LCt threshold attracts LCT as well. parts don't get an import duty but 10% gst if package is over $1000 aud. July 2017 this is supposed to start applying to all imports, though I don't know how they are going to police it. australia is an over-regulated, overtaxed armpit of a country and I'm surprised anything productive at all gets achieved. Funny how I keep meeting increasing numbers of people who work outside of the country frequently. Singapore seems to be coming up an awful lot. Oldmxnut Posted 14December, 2015 Report Share Posted 14December, 2015 Correct per above. Few other fees as well which can add up so do your homework. Only hope on the horizon is some conversation about reducing import duty post holden/ford exit, but really for our sort of cars its the LCT which is the burner.Im with you on the tax, duties and fines for state coffers. Its somewhat coincidental that PM is pushing innovation (tech boom) this last week and one of largest Australian born Tech IPO's lists off shore same week saving themselves some $100M in tax…. (not only reason I know but you cant tell me it didn't feature in the conversation)

(not only reason I know but you cant tell me it didn't feature in the conversation) I blow a bloody gasket every time I hear our bloody government carrying on about getting tough on corporations shifting their Aust profits offshore. The only reason corporations do that is because Australia's corporate tax rate is so high compared to other countries we give corporates no option but the shift their profits overseas. Perhaps if the government got real and made our corporate tax rates more inline with other countries then there would be no need to shift profits overseas!!! If I hear one more idiot say corporates need to pay their fair share of tax I will go on a rampage through Canberra. Now you've got me going:)
