P-Kay Posted 2January, 2016 Report Share Posted 2January, 2016 My friend...I do believe you are at least two years too late (if not more) considering the budget and the target you are aiming for.As mentioned above, regardless of door trims, that is what you will need to accept as a starting pointGood luck in your hunt! Nice pic you have there but that is a $100k car all day.why not stretch the budget a bit and there are a couple of early LHD 911's for sale. They have been for sale for a while so probably some room for negociationhttp://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=OAG-AD-12111558&Cr=2http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=OAG-AD-12111923&Cr=
LeeM Posted 2January, 2016 Report Share Posted 2January, 2016 $50k won't buy you much at all without requiring a fair bit of work, unless you get lucky and find one that hasn't been advertised. The more original a car is, the more you will pay. As others have said, 2 years ago they were cheap, yet there are a LOT of people wanting an early 912 nowadays. I have a few wanting my lefty 66 $50k will buy you a decent car in the USA, not here, yet then you have to get it here, duties and all the other fees. Good luck in the search anyway, hope you find something within your budget
Ashbaxter Posted 2January, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 2January, 2016 Thanks for the feedback, I figured as much. Not sure I could live with LHD though.Looking at what's around and the increasing values I probably let go of my 87 a bit too early to finish off my 59 Kombi.Luckily the kombi values have increase at a similar rate. The hunt continues

LeeM Posted 3January, 2016 Report Share Posted 3January, 2016 The yanks are going apeshit over the price of that green one. They reckon its worth half the asking. Porsche restorer Wilhoit had his patina'd car up for $148k! YikesSorry, I'm not helping here either

Ashbaxter Posted 4January, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 4January, 2016 Ok, so thinking outside of the square and I welcome any and all opinionsIs the one on gumtree http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mount-barker/cars-vans-utes/1965-porsche-912-coupe/1099372324a viable project to undo the bodywork changes?
LeeM Posted 4January, 2016 Report Share Posted 4January, 2016 Well yeah, ofcourse it can be undone, yet unless you can do most of the metalwork yourself with the guards, you could add $20k for a shop to do it and maybe paint it. Though I'd say some opportunist shops would charge more with the Porsche tax on top. Interior work $3000 or more, whats the engine like etc etc. I would have it inspected though. On the whole, its a viable option for sure, and I don't think you'd lose money that you put into it. Personally, I'd just buy it, ditch the interior and fit some better wheels then make it a bit more respectable visually and drive it
