Talk with SMIT2100 (Tony) , he has seen may of the TT's in the market and may have info to share , along with some PPI's if you twist his arm or perhaps offer trades for PPI's for beer, you will save yourself a few bucks?

In my experience of not owning but driving .. 997 is a more refined bit of kit , just gotta get the prices down.. they seem to have plumped up a bit beyond their normal depreciation curve , with the general rise of AC cars and the 996 GT3's which were defininately under and a bargain bang for buck a 3-6 months months back.

I personally think we are seeing a generic upward trend that will come back to more model specific markets with different cars and their merit, starting again to track its own pricing trend, everything was caught in the rush .. but the tre winners will come out in the wash in the next few months I reckon.

Mores Symsy philisophy.. but both cars are great though, I place my position on the table having after actually running around l5 states and looking at 30+ cars locally and watching looking and being in the UK Ttwice in the last 6 months whilst there , although many of these could never be imported of course.

In self review some of the carsI was to slow on the trigger .. I shared my info with SMIT and others and I know people like TurboT and Edgy have or are moving stuff in the market , have tracked it or tried to buy.

Not that there arent others here who , dont have great knowledge and perspective. I would be suprised if most of thecars in the market that has been somewhat stagnant hasnt been seen buy one of us at the moment. 996TT, 997TT , GT3's

Carrera86 has already Pm'd me so won't bore with the detail, but in reality with each generation they have got better. So buy the newest, lowest km, aussi delivered car you can find. Avoid a tip, don't be afraid of PDK ;)

Carrera 86,  I am aligned with symy's thinking in his post above.

I have been tracking 996 tt prices for over 18 months.  Suggest you do a search on my  forum user tag "smit2100" and read a couple of my posts (There very long apparently) and were posted for the benefit of newbies like myself / yourself that may be after a 996tt and I was putting  a signpost in the ground at a particular point in time  / trying to draw some meaningful debate.

In those posts you will see some of my opinions based on facts and logic and some return fire sarcasm and self preservation after being ridiculed and chastised by some in this my forum as the poor newbie that has never driven a Porsche and doesn't know diddly squat about 996tt's and the current market and should go back to chasing Corolla's and Barina's.

But given I put my money behind my views expressed in my posts and garaged  996tt from interstate on Friday 26th Feb for five figures in line with my first post,  my views and opinions have been  through the eyes of a buyer actively engaged in the 996tt market for the last 7 months.

Aside from you wanting a 996tt, not too sure what you are after based on your goals / wants which would affect pricing.  i.e is your preference for a stock example, manual , impartial to one being modified, would you put it on a track ??,/ mainly for daily / weekend / street hooning, any planned mods you want to do,  2003 / 2004 model which has a couple of tweaks for the better compared to the pre 2003 models???, colour, / option preference, do you intend to sell it in the medium term???  Does it need to be AUD delivered etc.  Suggest you get that sorted down on a piece of paper, if not already done so to help narrow your shortlist of what to chase and set you budgets.

If you don't want a manual, and you can save some more coin to circa 150k and are patient, I would be on the lookout for a 2007.1 tt.as well. (Much better car in my opinion and commands the price difference over a 996tt)

The the silver 2001 Tassie example currently on car sales. was initially advertised after Christmas for circa 123k  as  I recall (its covered in one of my posts) and was reported as sold per car sales  in under two weeks from being advertised.  I posted  I would be very surprised if it sold at its advertised price and someone may  have picked it up a circa 100k if it did.  (yes ridiculed again by some on that expressing that opinion).  Well, looks like that never sold (my view previously and hasn't changed  today) or if it did, the newest Tassie owner is trying to flip in within 6 weeks of transferring the car in their name.

Black Perth 996tt (don't like assuming, but it appears that car has seen a track more than once or twice, i.e silent disclosure via pictures (tow me) and application of some logic, eg roll cage wasn't stock and is over the top for a street car) It appears to be well setup if you are impartial to a modded car/ or plan on doing mods.  If that car was available when I was still searching three  to four weeks ago, it would of been at the top of my list to pursue  Who knows you may even get all the stock parts if you asked nicely and take it back to stock given the low km's.

The two cars I have outlined above would be the two 996tt cars currently advertised ones that I would put to the top of the lists to pursue and believe there is a big gap between them and the rest given advertised prices are all similar. Private message me if you want to know more details behind my thinking on having those views

Some lessons I observed in the last 7 months are:

1) BE PATIENT.

2) If you can stretch your 996TT budget up closer to the current 997.1TT (circa 150 plus), do it, they are better cars in my opinion and command the premium

2) Flip your thinking for now given a lot of the current 996tt's for sale have been their for months and do not appear to be moving at the advertised prices.  Treat the sellers as tenderers who are after you cash and that your have just informed them that all the prices are too high and if someone is willing to come down closer to the lump sum price you have disclosed to them, a deal will be done.(one or two may lower their expectations)

3) Jump all over one that ticks most of your boxes and don't be offended by the response you will receive on offering  5 figures subject to a PPI  irrespective of the advertised price on the same day it is first advertised.  Over the phone, you may get the polite, and subtle/ not so subtle  go and get stuffed / don't waste my F%^&%^ time( I was a sucker for punishment and still  followed up after a chat on the phone knowing the sellers clear position with an email putting the offer in writing just to let them know you are a serious buyer and they now have you contact details if they changed their mind).  But 6 weeks to two months later, if it hasn't already sold, don't discount a 180 degree flip when you go back to them (I did it by email first) and you remind them you have cash in your pocket and your keen to hand it over to them if the price is right and more in line with what you offered them initially subject to a PPI of coarse.

3) Make sure you get a ppi done with compression / leak test when one that crops up that ticks most of your boxes.  Don't hesitate to fold you cards and walkaway onto a new hand based on the results from the PPI

Good luck with the pursuit, reach out if you feel the need

I think /know the 997 series II is out of my price range unfortunately :(

as that would be the one to get.

I need to look for a nice 996 or 997, need to sell my car first I just don`t drive it enough, I think the 996 or 997 would get driven a lot more

hope I am not making a mistake with the change ?

You need to look inside your heart and listen to what it is telling you ....

I personally would never sell my SC to upgrade to a newer model ..... that's not saying I wouldn't buy or drive one, just wouldn't sell my car to do it.

My "old" aircooled is my poster car .... it is the car that makes me feel like I'm king of the road everytime I drive it .... it is the car that evokes the widest grin just thinking about it.

It's all about which one makes you feel that way ..... neither is right or wrong.

I know that a "newer" Porsche would be great to own and drive ... it would be faster, safer and in some peoples eyes, better looking.

But I just know that if I swapped my old aircooled for one, I would always wish that I still had it and that I was in it right now ....

Whats the answer for me?  ..... keep it and buy "another" Porsche, or just keep it! ....... I think at a minimum, I'll keep it!

The mariage between cool car and owner.

19 Years in , near bankruptcy , two wives later , I still got my AC TT.   I suggest go rent a TT or do a temporary swap, thats a hot car you have.

I kinda know that feeling for something else, but once you take search you will be a long time trying to scratch that itch.

I guess being romantic a bit like first love.

I wlll get punished for this but I recall my 3.2 days and stil think of them..  the TT's are impressive…. the 996TT nearly got me and the 997TT is a gem but … theres always a bit inside… god knows when I nearly pushed my cash across the table to by a MY11 GT3 , in the back of my mind i wondered if it would feel like my TT or flick my switch the same way.

The RS the bigger the better  always get a look at the car shows of thats your gig , but the nostalgia always grabs em in .. theres a reason for it .. irreplaceable iconic style.
