tazzieman Posted 9October, 2017 Report Share Posted 9October, 2017 Nice to see you're minimising the planet's resources . Those stock mufflers , what a waste of metal . Sound should be liberated.Truck those old mufflers to that noise factory in Canberra .Good work btw! Uncle
Uncle Posted 9October, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 9October, 2017 (edited) Tools of our trade. After a not inconsiderable amount of time we made the perfect x-pipe. This is the key point around how we build everything else. The motor is slightly offset and we are going for a perfect tuned length system. I see you.Once we got it down to less then 1mm deviation it was time to start the TIG up. Oh and lucky for me I happen to have these high flow cats ready to go! Next was adding V-bands to the X-pipe so muffler options later on. Whilst HWCW was busy on the TIG I bolted the cats up ready for the rest of the job. So much room for activities. I’ll post more once we get more done in the coming weeks. Edited 9October, 2017 by Uncle Peter M, GUT, MFX and 3 others
Coastr Posted 9October, 2017 Report Share Posted 9October, 2017 So the cats. Yep they are the worst I’ve ever seen and robbing massive amounts of power.Drivers side.Pax side. holy crap how did any exhaust get through at all? It's like a prankster stuffed a rolled up towel in there
Uncle Posted 9October, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 9October, 2017 Yeah that pretty much sums it up.
Uncle Posted 20October, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 20October, 2017 Ok so the hard part is now done. Whilst this looks like a simple couple of bends and a x-pipe its actually a fairly complex shape as it involves both up and downward spiral in one continuous radius. Added to that is the engine is offset to the left slightly. What you see below is about 25 to 30hrs work between 2 guys. You could knock something up in a matter of hours if you just chucked it together and MIG’ed it. I wanted it perfect so it takes time and a lot of fiddling around getting right. The end result should be an exhaust you would normally get charged (Lambo Tax) close to 10k USD for like the link below. Total cost so far is, well its a lot less than that. http://www.fabspeed.com/gallardo-performance-package/We should get the last of it done Saturday arvo / Sunday. Once finished I’ll start the car get it all warmed then pull it all back out and get it ceramic coated black to keep the heat inside the pipe. DJM Posted 20October, 2017 Report Share Posted 20October, 2017 Mucho respecto anyone who is game to play with a Lambo in the shed deserves kudos. And to then rip bits out and fabricate complex new bits by hand, well that's just showing off. Geez these days I don't (can't?) even change a set of brake pads. Uncle Posted 20October, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 20October, 2017 The car is actually really nice to work on. Everything is laid out well and makes sense. There are somethings that a designer is still laughing about as he goes to sleep at night but no more than any other car. Very much looking forward to the first start up. edgy and MB911
Zelrik911 Posted 22October, 2017 Report Share Posted 22October, 2017 (edited) Inspiring stuff. I just looked at the Fabspeed Video & its hard to believe that its $A15K for an exhaust system, but the Lambo Tax makes the P.car Tax look cheap!!Their car still has the burbles & pops on the overrun which I thought would be cured by new 02 sensors? Uncle Posted 22October, 2017 Author Report Share Posted 22October, 2017 Dumping a little fuel in on overrun it pretty normal. “Keeps things cool”. We finished it all up today. Very long day in the shed but its spitting flames out of the right places now and sounds stupidly good. Proper F1 car good.
