3.2SSE Posted 29March, 2016 Report Share Posted 29March, 2016 I need a little guidance on what to do with my rear sway bar mount. 1987 Carrera the car had been fitted with 305 19 on the rear I assume this is when the damage started. The mount has broken for a second time its the left side that keeps breaking, does anybody know it the standard mount fits non standard sway bars?I am unsure if my rear sway bar is standard I'm told the diameter of a standard bar is 21 mm if the bar has been replaced I would expect that the mount should accommodate larger bars you would just have to change the rubbers. Has anybody had any experience in fitting Wevo mounts or would you suggest the modified new mount from Porsche. Do I replace both sides or just repair the broken mount. percy Posted 29March, 2016 Report Share Posted 29March, 2016 I just fitted modified Porsche items to both sides -- much stronger unit with internal "crossover" or butterfly type bracing welded into the part. Stock rear sway bar (non-turbo) should be 21mm 911 501 180 02 is the original part number -- doesn't show that it comes in different sizes ? wasserkuhl Posted 29March, 2016 Report Share Posted 29March, 2016 You can buy bigger mounts. Is it a widebody? The tyre size suggests it is. A bigger mount will not solve your problem. The problem will be with wheel spacers, torsion bar set up and everything being out of alignment. Your shock absorber on the right may be fooked as well. Or both. Probably. Time to pull to pieces my dear.
3.2SSE Posted 29March, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 29March, 2016 Thanks for the input wasserkuhlCan you elaborate a little on the alignment of spacers, torsion bar set up, the car has been had two 4 wheel alignments by a good Porsche guy in the last 6 months the reason for the last was fitting of 930 tie rods last week. The vehicle now has 275 40 17 on the rear and yes its a wide body how would you pick up the misalignment and yes the shocks are tired and will be replaced, is there a suggestion that the spacers should be changed ?
