Speedo issue

Recommended Posts

A few days ago the needle was bouncing erratically at slow speed but went away & worked normal

Today on the way home after getting a RWC on the 930 the speedo just stopped working, i was on the freeway at 100kms then it just stopped.

At home i checked all the connections from the gearbox to the back of the speedo & they are all good... any suggestions???

I'm not sure about your earlier cars, but on my '81 the speedo is electronic ....

If yours are too, the bouncing would lead me to believe a bad earth / connection in the wiring ....

I would start by pulling out the speedo and cleaning / wire brushing the connections on it and the wiring and see what happens ....

Not sure about the speedo, but my tacho needle started bouncing and shortly after the car stopped dead. The alternator shat itself. Maybe check the charge level.

The tacho can also start to bounce if the connection of the earth lead to the battery is "how ya goin" .... don't know if it would also affect the speedo, but certainly worth making sure the connection there is good ....

I have one of those kill switch terminals .... the kind where youmtwist a knob on top to make the connection. One time it had worked loose, and was making connection on an irregular basis .... but it was enough to send the tacho haywire.
