Hughesy Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 Maybe, the gear/cogs in the speedo are worn. It's a easy self fix There is a thread on pelican. I'm sure someone will post the link Hughesy
Dreamr Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 I'm not sure about your earlier cars, but on my '81 the speedo is electronic ....If yours are too, the bouncing would lead me to believe a bad earth / connection in the wiring ....I would start by pulling out the speedo and cleaning / wire brushing the connections on it and the wiring and see what happens .... ruby82sc Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 The "drive" in the T/M has a series of magnets that create the pulse, if one or more of these fail it goes pair shaped and has the speedo either not working or not working accurately........ James P Posted 19April, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 Im thinking the same maybe a bad earth... ill have a proper look tomorrow
GUT Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 Not sure about the speedo, but my tacho needle started bouncing and shortly after the car stopped dead. The alternator shat itself. Maybe check the charge level.
Dreamr Posted 19April, 2016 Report Share Posted 19April, 2016 The tacho can also start to bounce if the connection of the earth lead to the battery is "how ya goin" .... don't know if it would also affect the speedo, but certainly worth making sure the connection there is good ....I have one of those kill switch terminals .... the kind where youmtwist a knob on top to make the connection. One time it had worked loose, and was making connection on an irregular basis .... but it was enough to send the tacho haywire.
