Only 6 944's left on carsales, 3 968's and 4 924's, haven't looked on ebay or Gumtree.

Is that low or high? What's the historical norm?

Reason I ask is that I just bought a 944 earlier today in Adelaide. White 83 manual, was listed on gumtree.

After watching the price of the 911 jump overnight, then trying to get a 260z and also watching those jump in price overnight, I thought the 944 represented pretty good value - for my tiny budget anyway! I didn't want to hang about and watch these jump out of my price range too (but considering I bought one they'll probably drop!!).

I figure they're a pretty fun little car?

It's not perfect but it seems pretty solid. I'm pretty happy with it.

Congrats mate lots of fun ahead for you.

When I started looking quite a few years ago you could have whatever you wanted there was several of every model, base, S, S2, turbo.

They are a solid and well built car and a bucket load of fun, got some pics for us?

I would have loved to pick and choose but from my learnings with the 911 and then the 260, you can't really afford to wait for the perfect one. I would have loved a turbo too but they're outside my range unfortunately.

I'm pretty stoked and can't wait until it's trucked back to Perth!

Here's an image from the Gumtree site, it's the only one I have;

@88mph  congrats on your new purchase.

You are only 10 minutes down the road from my in Coogee. I note you mentioned the photo above is the only photo you have from Gummie to get you through until your car arrives.  I know what the wait is like!

Here are the other photos of your new car I grabbed for you from the cached page:

anyone?

go buy it before I do!!

Seriously though, there were previous photos that showed more of the drivers door trim that looked so-so. Cosmetic really and for that price, hey...what do you expect?!

Hop on a plane and if you like what you see, hand over the folding stuff, pay for the VicRoads permit and enjoy the 8 odd hour drive back home

Maybe that it has been sitting in a shipping container for a few years has put some people of.

anyone?

http://www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/detail/porsche-944-365316

I found this one a little time back, & got some onfo on it but then found the one I purchased.

A brief history.
The car was delivered new in Adelaide 20/12/85.
In 1987 new owner, Darwin NT.
The trail disappears until about 2000 when purchased by a mate of mine
who was working in Perth.
He moved to Dubai shortly after wards and garaged the car.
Robert died in 2011 and left me the car in his will.
I garaged the car again, unregistered, and with the help of a mechanic
gave the car a full service, all belts and timing belt kit etc.
It is mechanically very sound, no smoke, no oil use, or unusual noises
other than an intermittent rattle from a suspect cam follower.
Sorry I do not have documented service records for much of its life
but can assume only that it has been well looked after given its
current condition.
Re mechanics. I've been a car  enthusiast all my life and with
guidance from a Ford senior technician mate have done all work myself.
A word of warning. Avoid Porsche dealers at all costs. They charge 2 or
3 times normal cost. the cars are reasonably simple and all you need
is a manual, a supply of parts and a good mechanic and you will save a
lot of money.
I buy parts from 'Aporscheapart', in Melbourne or Pelican Parts (USA) on line.
No probs with either.
Regards

The guy sent me a heap of photo's I can email you if you what, just PM an email address for me to send them to.

Take this very good advice, not that complex and you don't have to be a mechanic to do some of the jobs on these cars.

If you have a job your not sure about get on this forum and ask how, some very knowledgeable people on here and i'm sure someone will know.

I'm sure its meant to go in the International thread, but that's usually clogged with 911/930 stuff, so I'll put it here. Might be a good spot for someone experienced in bringing cars in from overseas - I don't have the time to find my way through right now - but, other than the colour, this could be a good use of $17,500 plus shipping...

Pre-89? Check.

RHD? Check

944 Turbo? Check

Desirable colour? Er, probably not...

Seriously, if someone experienced wants to bring it in, I might be interested in helping you make a few $$...
