Hey guys, yep my car. Rushed this listing up before a work trip this evening, didn't even get a chance to post it here. Would love to keep this, but I justified the new 911 purchase to the missus by agreeing to sell some of my other toys :(

Wanna trade for my a white 951? :D

*I want to keep my engine though

I know that feeling. GLWS, suspect it will be a great car for the buyer. How do you find the 911 compared to the 944?

Nice ad, but a hard sell at those km...

"Full engine rebuild", whats the problem. For some one who knows these cars i am sure they would look past the kms, good turbo's are thin on the ground, if there isn't too much other maintenance required to me it's good buying.

Good ad Vinny but as a buyer i would like more detailed photos, good luck with it mate it's a pity you can't keep it.

Speaking of 944's this lovely looking example is on eBay at the moment:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1984-Porsche-944-5sp-manual/302658042511?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I recognised the back story of the car from a recent ad on gumtree. When I enquired with the seller - he confirmed it was the same car. On gumtree it was $15k, now on ebay it's $25k! The seller said he has realised that 944's are selling for more these days, so upped the price.

The gumtree ad had really crappy photos so I didn't bother to enquire about it - however if it had these same photos that are on ebay - I would have snapped it up for $15k.  Seller didn't seem to keen on negotiating from his new price of $25k and said he would just keep it for when he's back in the country.

The 911 is more torquey in the lower rev range and the oversteer is fun (sometimes), but the 944 Turbo is better in almost every respect when it comes to performance. The handling is superb and the 50/50 weight distribution combined with some nice rubber and konis can make a driver out of anybody.

Thanks for the kind words. It really doesn't need anything done to it, I'd be confident to jump in it today and drive across to Perth without hesitation. I try to make sure that cars leave my possession in better condition than when they arrived, and haven't skimped on paying for genuine parts or finding specialists to maintain the car.

As for the ad, I knew the high mileage would be a sticking point, but the aim was to illustrate the condition of the car overall and have some beautiful photography to garner interest. If a potential buyer is serious enough to take a look at the car or get a ppi done, it would give them a better idea of the condition rather than some curated detailed shots imo.

Which is why i find it hard to figure out why the 911 is put on a pedestal when a bog stock 944 Turbo whips it's ass in almost every aspect. Ok i get that it's iconic and the flat 6 sound is hard to beat, almost every person i have spoken with that has an older 911 and a 944 side by side in the garage has told me the same thing, don't sell your 944 to buy an older 911 because you will be disappointed.

It makes sense huh Tingy and I agree. If you're generalising the 911 (meaning standard common AC) it does make sense but it is as it is and the romance for most won't ever change. Same case can be said for choosing a 944 turbo over a bog stock 986 Boxter S. It's all passion, emotion, fashion, brotherhood and romance when it comes to comparisons in nearly all aspects. Great if you can appreciate the value in nearly all aspects of driving and owning the "lesser" choice. You obviously can, I can as well. Best to have one of eachB)

I've been seriously thinking AC for a while now, I've driven a few but I'm left a little bewildered..  Sure, they look the goods, hold all the nostalgia of a boyhood dream, but then I get into my WC and think that there really is no substitute.  I've thought about owing one of each but then that to is just a little bit unreal..  Lack of garage space, double the insurance, rego etc etc and really, I can't drive two at the same time.   And for a blast through the twistes I know which I'd favour.  I've realised that I'm only lusting after an AC to fulfill my boyhood dream.

Conclusion..  Buy a better'r and faster'r 996..!

Well said @Troubleshooter

I won't be buying into the AC world, i would love one but i can't justify the ridiculous prices for a "standard" AC car. Missed the chance when they were at proper pricing, i am thinking Cayman would be a good fit for me.

Now your talking, Cayman, balance, poise, handling, I’ve driven all the caymans right up to 718, can’t say I haven’t liked all of them.

That would be $200k, $20k wouldn't even cover the engine mods me thinks:o

That's what I was thinking, but $200k?? ??

Great choice! One aspect of the conversation wasn't zeroed onto prices paid for each but when focused on price, with like for like (Man Coupe standard options) a 987.1 Cayman S smacks all of the above into the weeds for what you get in return

But you don’t get pop up lights, box flares and turbo lag with a Cayman! If you’re into 80s (or earlier) cars whatever the shape, a modern car is always lacking that retro ‘character’ even if they are more comfortable and faster.

Definately agree - the one word I left out of my reply to Tingy above was character, although I'll argue all day that a 986 S has heaps of character just not the 80's 90's type. Aging nicely give it 10 years and it'll be retro - 20 years old already! Then his 944 turbo will be 39 years old, sweet bejesus:o

I see Vince's 944 Turbo has just been listed for sale. Some very impressive photos in the ad. Slate Grey Metallic is a stunning colour if I do say so myself (biased)! :D

I subscribe to the 4+6+8 cylinder collector choice. You could add 2 and 10 and 12 if you wanted the royal flush. But there aren't too many Porsches in those configurations.

Like dogs , they all behave differently.

The 944 is a nice easy to live with dog.
