What tyres can I get for an RSR?

Hey guys,

I am at the stage where I should look at buying some rims for my project. The issue I have is what tyres are available in what sizes which will determine what wheels I order.

The originals were of course 15 x 9 and 15 x 11. Personally I prefer the look of 16's but I would go to 17's if I need to. As for the widths I am thinking 9's on the front may end up "tram lining" a lot so I am considering 8's. Any experience people have with 9" front rims on an AC 911 would be appreciated. Rears I am still keen on 10.5's or 11's. The rear tyres are really the issue, as I would need something in a 305. I asked at my local JAX the other day, and they had nothing close, so any ideas on what is available and where would be great.

I haven't had 9's up front but I've got RUF 17x8/9 on my NB and they're great. Also have 17x8/9 on the 930 at the moment.

I have a brand new set of Harry Witham wheels (though a few years old now) that I'm pretty sure are 17x11/9. Was going to put them on the Carrera wide-body but haven't got around to it. I enquired about tyres a while back at Stuckey tyres and it was relatively easy to find suitable width in 17's. Cant remember the details now.

Not sure if I'll use the wheels so if you want to know more, let me know. Fuchs style 2 piece.

Hey Gut. I tried to send you a PM, but you can't receive messages? I could be interested in your rims. Let me know, thanks mate.

I am still swaying towards the 16's or 17's because of the ability to upgrade the brakes in future if necessary. I looked at Michelin's site and they are good with 15's but nothing for 16's.

Easy, Michelin TB15 tyres.  Pretty Sure Stuckey Tyres in Melboune the national distributors.

If 15's are all I can get, then they seem like the way to go.

I don't know if car tyre discussions etc are the same as bikes, yet I've found you don't get much 'feel' with Michelins, yet Pirelli's you get notice of the grip limits well before they snap sideways like Michelins are renowned to do.

If I had the chance to buy and fit some 6's and 8's x 15's in the RSR style, I'd sell my original 6 and 7 inch 16's in a heartbeat.  Many more tyre options in 15's

Cleared some messages now. I reckon 15s would look awesome though.

15's for sure!! Fat tires will get the look right. 17's will look wrong...

Have you considered minilites, campagnolos or watanabes?  Stand out from the sea of fuch-ers! (Sorry Stu! :P)

I have considered the Minilite's or Watanabe's. They look great, and the 15's do look good...... I am so easily swayed ;)

I just need to get some quotes on what they will cost me. I am getting scared already!

Just think about what you could have spent if you farmed out the body work.  Wheels are chump change in that respect.

17x9 and 11 Braid.  No tram lining.  However your offsets will be different.

That is what I wanted to hear :) . I had 9"s and 11"s (19"s though) on my Cayman S, and it was fine, but I wasn't sure how it would be with the lighter 911. Are the hubs wider spaced on a 930? I have 930 guards on the rear, and I am pretty sure that the fronts are also based on 930 guards as well.

I'm currently building a 73 RSR tribute as well.

I went with 17x9 and 17x11

Running 255 40 17s in the front and 315 35 17 in the rear. Nitto NT05s from St George tyres. My car has the turbo flares welded on but i cant comment about fitment as yet as it's still in the shop getting completed.

I did look at Nitto's which are perfect for the 9's and 11's. I have now picked up some custom 17x8 and 17x10 from @GUT which look great, but I have been much more limited with tyres for the 10's. I have ordered some Falken 453's in 265/40's and 235/45's (which are pretty much all I could find that would fit) They will take another week or so I will post up some pics when I have them back. They were built for a 930, so I will be needing spacers on the rear.

Of course, if they don't suit, I'd happily take them back! Missing them already!
