vinnytang Posted 29July, 2016 Report Share Posted 29July, 2016 So I went ahead and purchased an '86 944 Turbo at the start of the month, finally got it roadworthy and registered this week so I thought I'll share some photos. It's clocked over 380,000 kms, but has a fairly complete service book and the engine was fully rebuilt 90,000 kms ago by Weltmeister back in 2004. All matching numbers, repainted in the original Metallic Slate Grey with some neat options. The last owner supplied a huge stack of receipts spanning the last decade, previous owners were fairly meticulous and the car has been beautifully looked after. Most high-mileage trouble areas such as clutch, air con, power steering, suspension gear, computers and sensors have been replaced with genuine Porsche parts or high quality aftermarket components. Other things such as the straight through exhaust, short shifter, drilled discs and new tyres round off a very clean car that would be the perfect driver. The plan is to tidy up the interior even more and get the car handle better. I'm putting together a period high end stereo system in it (let me know if any of you guys are into vintage stereo gear) and hope to reupholster the steering wheel and seats down the track. Mechanically, a M030 package and a engine bay tidy up are the only things scheduled, I want to keep it fairly original.Other than that, I'm just gonna enjoy this thing. It's arguably the only '80s golden era car (homologated, flared arches, turbocharged, etc) that hasn't completely sky rocketed in price, and with the high k's I'm not stressing about putting some mileage on it. What I need to do is find some reputable 944 specialists or wreckers in Melbourne, I'm completely out of the loop on these FR Porsches. I'll shoot some decent shots once the weather clears up down here!(I know, I need to center the plates. This was taken right after I got the rego!)(with my boss' 560SEC)
