1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI

Recommended Posts

I've decided to move this one on as I'm looking at something else to replace it - actually I know what's coming .... Clue .... Lava Orange.  I'm facing a space issue (woe is me ...) and moving on a car is cheaper than upgrading the toyshop.

It's a 1974 Carrera 2.7 MFI.

Australian delivery with books and VERY full history.  Even I'm amazed at what the previous owners have tipped into this car over the last 25 years.

Black leather interior, sports seats, all correct. Has been fully refurbished.  New carpet set, retrimmed seats.  Steering wheel is original.

The body is in a word, perfect.

The delivery color is Salmon Metallic W5 036.  It's been recolored with a 1976 Carrera color called Sienna Red Z5 436 an optional metallic color.  It's also fitted with a genuine ducktail.  Didn't come with the car but is a correct tail originally fitted to a 73RS.

The engine is stock save that it is now a 2.8 this being a popular upgrade when an engine needs rebuilding.  I do however have a set of correct 2.7 pistons and barrels that can be part of any deal.  Also, it's dry and has the tensioner upgrade. SSI's are also fitted.

It has been re-cased in the early 90's using a case purchased from Porsche.  Not sure of the cause but some of those cases suffered from early porosity.  The one in it now doesn't.

Drivetrain is tight.  The gearbox is smooth.

It drives beautifully, no rattles, squeaks or clunks.

Its not going on Carsales as I'm putting the word out to enthusiasts.

So, how much?  What I can say is that unlike a couple of other cars for sale locally, you don't need oxygen to breath the air around the number.

I do know what they're worth (as opposed to what people ask which is not the same thing) and work on the theory that both a buyer and seller have to get something out of a deal.  That said, low ball offers do piss me off just as I suspect, unrealisticly high numbers piss off anyone interested in buying.

Happy to share more about the car on the forum.  If you're interested in seeing the car or finding out more of the gory detail to help you decide if you want to see it, PM me and I'll send you some pics.

what else have you got hidden away in that garage of yours?

A few things .... Anything in particular you're looking for my friend or are you after a tell all exposé?

quite a level headed sales pitch and sounds like a good car. glwts.

Thanks.  It's a good thing. I find being straight up and down much easier when you're doing deals.

I recon we deserve an expose. What with yellow 930's, pink MFI's and a Larva Orange on the way there is sure to be quite a collection

Was this the car Carins recomisioned 1-2 year ago?

No, that was my Peru Red LHD 75 Carrera which I took back from Group S weapon to road (weapon).

Im driving that one today and whilst it's all stock body and suspension wise, the race spec motor is still in it and pumping a nice 315 hp (it's a pretty exotic 2.8) and the straight cut gears give it a touch of the Sydney taxi's ...

Cold morning, clear roads around Flinders.  Heaven.

If there is a 3.0 for sale, I'd be interested

As it happens, I've just got one as part of a deal on my C4S.  Looking forward to getting it.  It was in the tropics but now in Brisbane with Don Munro (who's a great bloke and someone I'd strongly recommend) to get a couple of things tidied up before I make another hefty contribution  to the bottom  line of my good friends at CEVA and bring it to Melbourne. The car is matching but has some nice hot bits like carbs, SSI's. Had a left to right conversion 35 years ago using factory bits. Don tells me it's a great car.

As an international man of mystery, I think MezgerMan's the way to go.

I'll just keep posting making clear and sometimes oblique references to the things in the shed.

One things for sure, I've got wonky tastes in colors.
