Pork Chops Posted 7August, 2016 Report Share Posted 7August, 2016 What do you folk use? I like the easy loading of this type of design (link below). Looks quite lightly built, which if it's strong enough is probably good. Never towed before so all advice welcome.http://www.raceking.com.au/
Mike-S Posted 7August, 2016 Report Share Posted 7August, 2016 I've towed cars all over Europe and a few round Victoria, never have I had one on a single axle trailer, they're just too unstable IMO. You really need to load them well, otherwise it'll be snaking all over the joint.Stick to twin axles for cars, much easier and more forgiving. Redracn Posted 7August, 2016 Report Share Posted 7August, 2016 When I was looking recently the big issue was the weight you could carry. In Aus you are limited to 2000kg total with override brakes so most could not carry my EVO X (1630kg). The Raceking at 350Kg is a very light trailer but with a highish load capacity for an override brake setup.I opted for a tilting Brain James TT 3axle (no longer made) trailer with electric brakes. No issue opening car doors when loading. No issue fitting car between trailer wheels. No battery or special wiring to run the hydraulics. Very stable to tow but heavy at just under 1000kg with spare tyre and long ramps. I would also suggest electric brakes with a proportional controller as a sound investment. DJM Posted 7August, 2016 Report Share Posted 7August, 2016 After years of stuffing around with variable quality hire trailers, I bought one of these. Great value, tows well, drive straight on, doors open above the guards for east entry/egress, wheel rack for spare rims, Jerry can holders for fuel, storage box on the fron for everything else. Came with 2 over wheel ratchet ties which clamp down to the punched metal deck. Really quick and simple. Highly recommended. The owner of the business races HQs so I assume has developed this for his own use over the years. I didn't get electric brakes and it's fine but I already have a controller on the X5 for our caravan so I'm thinking I will retro fit electric brakes to the car trailer for added safety.RX7 is loaded up ready for Sandown next weekend so if you want some photos of mine, let me know.also note they can do GVM 2800kg which would cover most carshttp://www.triktrailers.com.au/racers-choice-car-trailers/

SimonN Posted 8August, 2016 Report Share Posted 8August, 2016 After 30+ years of towing all around Europe and now some in Oz, There are a few things I have concluded. First, i don't mind if it is single or double axle because, so long as it is properly loaded, you won't tell the difference when driving. I like galvanized trailers over painted. For car trailers, I would never go with one I cannot drive on and off. A good tie down system is a must. Just because you think you don't need tyre racks now doesn't mean you won't need tyre racks. I like storage on the trailer, because I never tow with a vehicle that has enough space. While looking good is cool, this is one time where function is better than form. Most good trailers are not very attractive! So, for many reasons, the Race King doesn't hit the spot for me, but I love the feature that allows you to jack the whole thing up for a maintenance platform. I think the Trik Trailers offering seems good value and has many of the features I value, so depending on exactly what i was using it for, I think I would go with that and a tyre rack and the under floor storage. OBRUT Posted 8August, 2016 Report Share Posted 8August, 2016 I tow my 69 911E group s car with a tilta-trailer single axle. It is rated for 1100kgs from memory. Super simple, drive on and drive off (plus has a winch if required). You move the ramps on the frame (very simple) to adjust the tongue weight etc. I tow the car engine forward.I have to remind myself it is there it is so easy to tow. Plus I can move it around the garage by myself with the car still on it.

symsy Posted 8August, 2016 Report Share Posted 8August, 2016 Aluminium trailers ..drive on , with tool box on ebay in S.E Queensland ..borrowed one and was great ..dual axle 5k bargain .. I could man handle around on my own off the hitch … Im just looking for the links or will find it will call my friend..I have a 6m Enclosed… Nothing like taking your shit with ya Agree on the wheel storage , jack storage on an open trailer and fuel storage inputs from others .. think about what you carry , but on a Non Pcar you have always got the boot space..which stuff doesnt have to get lashed down in ..for me .. who rarely works on cars at the track… I have found in an emergency most tracks have a hoist anyway … and lots of punters with a full tool kit .. and its less to shit pack it up , if it fails 1 in 100 times I get frustrated and take it home .For me it all depends on where your towing...Drive on is great , although , even with a monster wide traler .. a remote winch is nice… Even with the 911 or the Esky which are narrow and a good 6 inches either side … its a moment of cold sweat for me if I drive front in, alone on a shallow ramp…I get that tunnel vision , maybe I will have to paint a chicane on the back wall and focus on that .. reversing in obviously is much easier..For me it makes little difference for the tow as both cars are quite light but I do feel tucking the front engined Esky up near the draw bar better ..with the porker ..well I seem to do same and the rear engine doesnt seem to matter ..but its a big trailer.. DJM Posted 8August, 2016 Report Share Posted 8August, 2016 yes please Here you go. Spiller my GT2 will fit on the trailer but the front lip would scrape I suspect. I've seen a few Porsche guys load backwards to put the engine weight over the front but even then I suspect the nose would drag on the ground as you reversed up. The RX7 has a low splitter but the front bar is held on with 2 Allen bolts so it's easy to take on and off. I strap it on without the front bar and throw that in the back of the tow car.over wheel ratchet tie downs are the best - really quick simple and effective.i should have got a longer storage box, maybe 1800 rather than 1200 - I haven't quite got room for my helmet bag in this one. And 2 more Jerry can holders will be added - turbo rotary means half a tank of juice on each run!

MFX Posted 9August, 2016 Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 I have a heavy crusty old lump, but it does the job. Twin axel and I towed my 911 home on a 8 hour drive and I didn't feel it. But of course being my trailer, I had to modify it, so I made new ramps and made up 400mm solid detachable sides. The ramps now act as the front and back of the trailer, so the whole thing is now dual purpose. I can use it as a car trailer, or a giant box trailer. Very handy for big loads to the tip, or picking up building products for my renovations.I do generally try to load up on a slope though, to make a flatter transition. bear924 Posted 9August, 2016 Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 I use a dual wheel Tilta trailer http://www.tiltatrailer.com.au/trailers/. Been using it for 4 years now and find it great. Only issues is tie down points in the rear as I like to really tie my car to the trailer. I fabricated some heavy plates and eye bolts that drop out of the way. I wired up a remote camera system so that I can see what is happening while I'm driving. If I forget to turn that off my battery it eats my battery. I went with the dual wheel to give me a wider range of cars that I can tow, this has been handy once or twice.
DJM Posted 9August, 2016 Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 Right rear flare has a bit of a rub on it. Story there? One week out from the event and you're locked and loaded ready already? I'm impressedumm, yes, 7:20 mark below. Almost undriveable slippery Sandown on 10 year old rooted semi slicks. this crash explains why I bought a cheap fast track car. No not because I'm a shit driver. Well not all the time. It was because Kissing the wall in the GT2 would be ugly. In the rx7, hose it off, slap some paint on with a brush and go again. Being a track car, it lives on the trailer, normally at work but ran out of room so it's been home in the carport patiently waiting for a track day.
