Macca Posted 9August, 2016 Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 This is like a confession in this day an age... have been a Blackberry user since 2007 and have owned alot of the models throughout. Have switched to iphone then sony xperia but it only lasts a couple of months until I go "back to black". Its just a better tool for me. I dont have a facebook account (etc) and simply need to call, email and text. I enjoy the tactile experience of pressing a button to hang up or answer. About 6 months ago I picked a new black p9981 which is a redressed 9900. Its a 2011 spec phone (3g) and its functions are severed as it basically requires a defunct BIS services for internet, mms and email (no au provider runs it anymore). I worked around it with APN settings and a sync email. I couldnt be happier - the 9900 was the great phone for me and this one is very well made, fits in the hand and also says Porsche on it Phone info - http://www.slashgear.com/porsche-design-p9981-gets-black-re-spray-keeps-crazy-price-21261935/So there ..I did it...confession over. I have a phone with buttons. (photo from the interweb)

Macca Posted 9August, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 Luddite!!lol, I'll take that as a compliment. I did however have to google the word -so that's me for today, I have learnt something new. Time to pack up from the office, power down the Windows 95, strap my bumpack on and head out rollerblading. ANF Posted 9August, 2016 Report Share Posted 9August, 2016 I like them too and much prefer real buttons, unfortunately I cannot justify the spend on a Porsche Blackberry, may have just get a "normal" one
Macca Posted 10August, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 10August, 2016 Agreed, It was $500 USD which is still ridiculous. If you are after buttons try the Blackberry classic (used can be bought for a couple of hundred now) as the software is active (4g etc) and doesn't require mucking around with the back end of the phone. The phones using OS7 are basically dead and you need to fiddle to get them working. If going retro, the list is grand unfortunately 3/4 of them won't work. Bring on playing nokia snake

Macca Posted 10August, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 10August, 2016 How do the Q5/ Q10 rate? Have been considering one of these, really prefer a new over second hand.Q20 is the "Blackberry Classic" Q10 is "Blackberry Classic" without the cursor and phone menu, answer/hang up buttonsQ5 is a cheaper version of the Q10,slower software etc. You can buy the Q20 new for about $400 on ebay. That is the pick out of the three, I had the Q10 and didn't like it - I prefer the cursor for selecting text from emails etc (copy and pasting) and the answer hang up buttons. The Blackberry apps are very limited compared to Android or OS (iphone) with blackberry world. I think twitter is defunct with these phones or something I read. Blackberry say that they will continue to support and update BBOS10 (software on these 3 phones) however they have moved to android to survive...barely. The Blackberry Priv has android + buttons and is cheaper now but expensive for what it is. I used the Priv for a couple of months and moved on to the p9981. I use it as back up phone for easy internet, emails and games - no calls etc. I have a classic (Q20) and enjoyed it - it was before i moved to the Priv. Its a good phone, nice fit in your hand and battery life is as per old skool Blackberry standard. I would recommend that one for plug and play usage. The Blackberry 9900"s or before (like mine) use OS7 and it is a headache to set up unless you are tech. I had headaches anyway as it is not a plug and play device anymore. Hope this all helps,http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_classic-6458.php
ANF Posted 10August, 2016 Report Share Posted 10August, 2016 Helps heaps. I just need text, calls, email and some internet search, have zero apps on my current phone - a Nokia 520 interim phone that I bought to fill a gap in a hurry. I don't need all the fancy stuff. I will search out for a Q20 or maybe Q10.Thanks
