Pork Chops Posted 17August, 2016 Report Share Posted 17August, 2016 So mine are rooted. Rooted to look at, operate, and no doubt I may as well be swanning around without them for all the good they'll do in a crash. So I need something new. Porsche want $880 for replacements (excluding the buckles). Of course I want to remain original but you can get an after market set from Lakewell for $300...So it's 'only' $580 difference but I've got a lot of '$580s' going on at the moment so need to keep things trimmed back where possible. What ideas do y'all have? Good quality second hand? OEM but not from Porsche? Got a brilliant set just laying around in the shed that I can have for $3.50? Aftermarket that can use the existing buckles?Cheers. Scott930 Posted 18August, 2016 Report Share Posted 18August, 2016 Have you asked Toby or Zig @ Cairns? They sourced me some 2nd hand ones in top nick to replace my rear belts a year or so ago. Not sure where they got them and price was pretty reasonable (which has not been my experience with aPorschapart over the years)
Dino Posted 18August, 2016 Report Share Posted 18August, 2016 Hi,When I rebuilt my 1977 Targa, I bought new belts from Hemco, Ballarat. Ph: 03 5334 1213. Pretty much identical to my old ones which were like yours too.Not sure if they are different to the '78 though.Worth a call to see what they have.Ciao 4 nao,Dino
Harvs11 Posted 18August, 2016 Report Share Posted 18August, 2016 I have an obvious comment, but it needs to be said. Be very careful with 2nd hand belts. If there is any visible wear, fraying, stretch marks etc. walk away. You only get one chance to test them properly and you want them to perform as designed. As for aftermarket belts, for legality ensure they designed for your car's make & model and are approved for use in Aus. If not, then your car isn't roadworthy. Insurance claims have been rejected for less.
Pork Chops Posted 18August, 2016 Author Report Share Posted 18August, 2016 Thanks all for your thoughts. Found these guys today who will put new webbing on your old / original gear for $115 per belt. Roadworthy, brand new, appropriate for the car, cheap, and safe. They'll fix your inertia reel mech too.http://www.seatbeltking.com.au/contact/
Russ Posted 23August, 2016 Report Share Posted 23August, 2016 they are VW inertia reel belts, so I assume there has to be a huge aftermarket scene for them

LeeM Posted 23August, 2016 Report Share Posted 23August, 2016 I agree with Harvs. As far as I'm aware, 2nd hand belts are illegal to sell regardless of condition. Happy to be proved wrong though
