924 and 924 turbo market watch - oz market

Dont disagree.. think might have been saying that .. but also saying even if you are into it for 20-30 or what ever, it's still relatively cost effective porsche turbo fun.

besides they don't all have to be shiny and new looking do they?

Purely because if one is looking at a $10k car, a $25k - $30k car is generally not an option.

It also certainly doesn't have to be shiny and new looking, but it does need to be trouble free and safe .... and that costs money.

Again agree. But just maybe for the 10k 924turbo  buyer,  is going to have to deal with realities of recommissioning , tweaking,  fettling an older car.

If  they just want to jump in and drive then buying an N/A in ok nick, might be the go.

Meanwhile the odd punter may just get lucky and find a 924turbo where the owners don't know and or care what they're worth and end up with a clean fuss free buy, maybe needing new coolant and pads and good luck to em.  Unlikely

All I'm typing  is the turbo, is still an underrated thing of it's time,  still affordable mostly obtainable - more so when you consider other period turbo variants $$$ '02, 99 etc

Assuming this was the car last year that sold (less than 10?) and had been sitting in a shed for ten or more years.

Non turbo

If we are thinking of the same car for sale about 4-5 months ago - that one was red, and had some hideous dished chromies ...

was in northern beaches with an old fella last year yes, he was asking $14k. It was on Tasmanian rego, I tried to buy it and was in line but someone else got a deposit in and supposedly paid full ask.

So im not sure how he can say "my loss your gain" I doubt he sunk $10k + into it.... unless he went to one of sydneys most boutique Porsche specialists and got reamed?

Lifted from the main thread, thought it belonged here in the warmer waters of front engined worship

Nice car (924T). Nicer garage https://carsales.mobi/cars/details/Porsche-924-1981/SSE-AD-4594516

That's a gem, looks like it may have spent a large part of it's life in that facility, UV light was not kind to the 924 range (unless the interior has been redone)

You either pay teens for a 924T and slowly and laboriously spend that again over time, or just grab someone neat like this...no affiliation

Who knows Michel, perhaps the various owners have spent a few dollars getting the car up to reliable service? Or maybe not?

Or

We could be witnessing the YOT 924

924T owners past and present, what do you say about the prospect of daily/regularly driving a very nice one?

I do like the look of this.  Anyone know the car?

Trev,

It does look nice and it would want to be REALLY nice for that sort of coin ...

I would be hesitant to recommend a 924T for daily driving ... I know there will be some that disagree but that is my view ... I find it enough to drive on ooccasion, let alone every day ....

A lot of fun though!!!

Yeah, I should have added - bear in mind I have not driven at all for almost a year, and am all for the "life's too short to drive boring cars" philosophy.

I have ZERO interest in a practical sensible daily runabout.

And I WANT driving to be an experience.

My 924 turbo was my only car for a couple of years. If the car is sorted they aren't difficult to drive, where you feel it is things like air conditioning, cruise control and all the mod cons that make modern cars... modern. 924s are also now difficult to get parts for, this could be a pain if you need something sorted quickly.

For a daily I would lean towards a boxster or 996.  Part of me would like to daily a 928 however considering I've yet to drive one I'd take my musings with a grain of salt.

I hear ya.  Have had a 996 and am seriously looking at Boxsters as a daily but the no back seats limits it a bit... which has me looking at Evos n WRXs... along with 928s..and this tidy looking 924T!

Daily reliability of a 928 or 924T is a concern though.  While a beater boxster should go alright I think!

I've been daily'ing my 928 S4 for close to 12 months now and hasn't missed a beat. Perfect daily for what I need and I get in and out with a smile on my face every week day :D

Coming down the freeway each night with the sunroof wide open, cool breeze and the purr of the 5.0L up front is hard to beat I reckon.
