Cheeky bastard Dean charged me $300 to drop the car at Benton and dropped an engine off with Emory on the same trip...

but yes, no love loss between them, so assuming not a lot of work

Cheeky is polite Tom. This will surely be the worlds most expensive 912 once landed in Bronte by years end?

Benton called this morning

- new tyres on order

- dean fucked the paint work, but nothing that can’t be fixed with an expensive detail

- had to tighten just about everything

- other than that she is all good

oh - he’s also organising insurance and rego for the car so I can drive it in LA when I am there for luft...but that’s for another thread 😉

Yikes not a ringing endorsement I’m picking up on here

Benton described Dean to me as:

”genious , but if it wasn’t for his wife he’d probably be homeless😂”

All good, apparently the car is a beast. All the tightening is done and she is wrapped up waiting on its beauty treatment before luft.

How have you found the build costs in US? I've known of a couple getting work done over there (not porsche) as cheaper shop rates etc, but a wee bit scary imo based on the fact if something isn't right over here, you take it back and get sorted. Depends on your time over there i guess, if you work over there and reside a bit there. The joys of cars!

with the dollar to dollar the way it is its probably cheaper here for some things, but there is no such thing as a '912 performance specialist' in OZ or someone that could build a polo engine, so going for the 'unique' option, I have to turn to LA.

Good idea Tom. I think it collected it's fair share of swirls sitting under dusty sheets for the past decade 😀 Looking forward to see this all prepped for the show and shine!

Just got back to OZ, but I wish I was still in LA.

POLO was bloody amazing. That engine + all the other Benton components which I have now confirmed as:

  • Koni shocks and struts
  • SC front Calipers
  • Carmen Ghia - Rear Calipers
  • Weltmeister Short Shifter
  • Weltmeister front and rear sway bars and strut bar

Around 800 mile test drive over a day and a half all over LA and surrounding hills/deserts. Last day got to see Dean one last time and drop the car back off to Benton for a couple of cosmetic changes largely getting some 73 interiors changes.

Cant wait to get her back

You had me on board with your awesome project until you went Carmen Ghia, you may not be a car guy, but show some

Especially as a 912 body was built by Carmen...err...Karmann
