Check your vacuum control valves have diodes! (Sporto owners)

Since I have been supplying new diaphragms I have come across a few vacuum control valves that have had their Flyback diodes inexplicably removed.

These diodes are located at the top end of the solenoid, between the 2 spade connectors.  They stop the gearshift microswitch contacts prematurely burning out due to arcing.  (From the collapsing field from the solenoid coil.)  If you are getting any more than a tiny flash at your micro-swich, then this is probably the culprit.

They should look like this--
