Broadsword Posted 8July, 2012 Report Share Posted 8July, 2012 I have just placed a deposit on my first Porsche (very exciting times); a 1998 Carrera coupe. I am not sure whether the tyres will need to be replaced to obtain a RWC, but I will probably look at changing them in the not too distant future. From what I gather calling the odd (?) tyre supplier or two, the tyres that are available for the 17 inch rims are deminishing in supply, particularly compared to the 18 inch rims. Are the 18 inch rims a direct bolt onprocess, or do they have different offsets etc that need to be considered? Thank you all in advance.
Guest vas930 Posted 8July, 2012 Report Share Posted 8July, 2012 Welcome to the forum. The 99 mod you are buying would have had 17in rims as standard. If they are 17s, you can still get a good road tyre for it. If you have 17s on the car the range is pretty good, better than 16. For a good range of road and rally tyres talk to Russel at Stuckey tyre service. They deal with these cars all the time. http://www.stuckey.com.au/ I dont bother with road tyres and just use the Dunlop DZO3G. The grip is great and they wear well if not used as a daily driver. http://www.stuckey.c...?TyreName=DZ03G Good luck.
Broadsword Posted 8July, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 8July, 2012 Those Dunlops look great; however my car will probably see more use as a daily driver than spirited action. Studley Tyres certainly sounds like a good starting point though. Thank you. PS. I always wanted a 930 and looked at the one at The Healey Factory, but it had too many mods done. Pity. 9fan Posted 10July, 2012 Report Share Posted 10July, 2012 Welcome, I have a range of 17"/18" cup 1 replicas and turbo twists that will suit. Will look good on the drives we have. PM if interested. Cheers,Mark
Broadsword Posted 10July, 2012 Author Report Share Posted 10July, 2012 Thanks guys, As it turned out I had to make a quick decision with the seller in order to gain a RWC, so it looks like I will not be worrying about tyre sizes or rim sizes until this set of boots is worn out. I will see how I go; early days yet.

PM if interested. Cheers,Mark Mark, I am assuming you have the various wheels listed on the PCV Forum including the GT2 wheels. I think you told me some time ago they would not fit my 98 Carrera as it is not a wide body, but there seem to be a couple for sale now and again with GT2 rims. If you or anyone else could confirm that would be great. Thank you.
9fan Posted 1October, 2012 Report Share Posted 1October, 2012 If you were going to fit the rears with a 265 or 275 tyre rather than wider ones they would probably fit. Yes, Straight fit. Mark or Paul at Donnellans the Tyremen know the right tyres for Porsche (Bridgestone specialist Box Hill). I'm in Box Hill north if you want to view or check fit.
