D-banger Posted 11January, 2015 Report Share Posted 11January, 2015 This DIY is for 993/964 cars fitted with the automatic raising rear spoiler. Within the spoiler is an articulating plastic wall the folds when the spoiler is closed and deploys when the spoiler is raised. It is not uncommon for this folding wall to split where the wall folds. There are numerous interweb articles on how to remove/replace this rear spoiler wall, but some articles are overly complex and make unnecessary recommendations like completely removing the rear spoiler. The best article I found was, http://www.bergvillfx.com/spoilerwallrepair.html Changes to his procedure, 1. Open spoiler to 75% and complete job with engine lid up, 2, remove top portion first as described, 3. bottom section: detach spoiler wall from cross bar/rod with fingers and then slide the bottom portion of the rear spoiler wall off the rubber gasket laterally. There is no need to remove the rubber gasket from the rear deck lid as described in the article. 4. Install by reversing the removal procedure. I did not bother with greasing the cross bar. Cracked/Split rear spoiler wall. Rubber gasket that holds the bottom of the spoiler wall (after the wall has been slid off laterally) New spoiler wall installed. FortuneAuto Posted 13January, 2015 Report Share Posted 13January, 2015 Nice work. Yes, it can be replaced without removing the spoiler. Some people are just too paranoid.

FortuneAuto Posted 13January, 2015 Report Share Posted 13January, 2015 It's just preference for others. There's no set rules on these things. As long as the job is completed properly. Cheers.
