Allan Posted 17May, 2011 Report Share Posted 17May, 2011 Hi All, Jumped in the Boxster this afternoon and the gear selector lights on the dash are flashing at me. Namely the 4th gear symbol and the Park symbol. Went for a drive round the block, no change apart from the Drive symbol flashing when in drive instead of the P of course. No other faults, drives beautifully otherwise! Book says stop what you are doing immediately and contact Porsche specialist. Have rang Porsche Centre Brisbane and am awaiting a return call. Only had the car a week! Should I be concerned??? Cheers, Allan P.S. Car is still under warranty at least but I am 8ook's from the nearest service centre! Sandy Posted 17May, 2011 Report Share Posted 17May, 2011 Hi Allan, You're right, the P-4 flashing is your gearbox's way of telling you that something is up. You should be able to read out the fault codes using a Durametric reader, then go somewhere like RennTech.org where you can find out what the codes mean. That'll give you an idea of what's up. Sorry to hear your new toy is acting up, but you should be ok with your warranty. Cheers, Sandy.
PCM911T Posted 17May, 2011 Report Share Posted 17May, 2011 Contact your dealer seems the obvious answer. They might have a solution or you are going to get lots of driving practice. Good Luck.
Allan Posted 17May, 2011 Author Report Share Posted 17May, 2011 Spoke to the dealer today and they have advised me to put the car on a hoist and try disconnecting the power cable? to the transmission and give it a clean. Hopefully it is just a dirty contact otherwise it is on the back of a truck! Keep your fingers crossed and we will see how we go ion the morning. Cheers, Allan
PCM911T Posted 17May, 2011 Report Share Posted 17May, 2011 Great if you have access to a hoist! Suggest you also contact Porsche Club Queensland and see if they know of a Porsche trained mechanic "local" to you. My Porsche man is 250k's away, but I enjoy the drive.Cheers Paul M
Allan Posted 18May, 2011 Author Report Share Posted 18May, 2011 Hi All, Drove the Boxster today and no issues whatsoever! Still put the car on a hoist and blew out and cleaned the gearbox wiring connection. The outside of the connection was filthy with years of encrusted crud. The internals appeared clean but they were given the once over just the same. Have to go to the beach tommorrow morning so fingers crossed it was just a connection problem.
