Porsche 911 LED Tail Light Bulb Problem

Hi everyone, from the UK here. Or is it 'G'day Mate'?

So this is my car. 997 Gen 1 Carrera.

I have these LED lights installed which I purchased from a user in Australia ebay.

The problem is here in the UK our brake lights are red and not white like Australia, and I have been stopped by the police and they said I need to fix this within 14 days. I tried many shops but they don't stock the right bulb.

This is the type of bulb I need:

So it has two filament things at the bottom and the pins are offset at an angle. The bulbs I find in the UK have centered pins opposite from each other whereas the ones on my car are angled at about 70 degrees.

So I am wondering what to do exactly. If anyone knows the type of bulb I need, ideally they would be red, and can link a place to me that will ship to the UK I would be grateful.

Many thanks.

Rexk,

Are you sure your connections are correct?

I think your bulbs are fine and suggest you have swapped the connection somehow between the stop light, that should be red both here and the UK and the reversing lights, which should be white?

The pins are offset on bulbs that contain two filaments to ensure the bulb can only be installed one way.  These sorts of bulbs usually have one 5w filament for tail light purposes and a 21w filament for stop light use.  The offset pins ensure you can't install the bulb so you have the taillight brighter than the stop light.

I'd suggest you use a friend to note down the colour and brightness of each light function as you go through each one at a time - indicator, reversing, tail and stop - and if there are two incorrect ones, just swap the connections.

Now I acknowledge that the plugs should normally be configured so this can't happen but there may have been a manufacturing fault where the pins in one plug have been inadvertently swapped in assembly.

Hope this helps mate!

Hey REKZ, our stop lights are red in Aus too mate, just like the rest of the world:P

What our learned Mr Murray said, you may have hooked them up the wrong way, should be an easy fix for you, good luck with it;)
