lookkool Posted 15March, 2012 Report Share Posted 15March, 2012 I have a well maintained Boxster that quite suddenly started to feel very vague and sloppy in the rear end. It feels as though there is a degree of sidewards play. I also noticed that when I was parking and put it into reverase I heard a slight clunking sound. Any ideas what the problem is? Costs to fix? Thanks. Peter
9fan Posted 16March, 2012 Report Share Posted 16March, 2012 Hi Peter, Suggest you have the CV joints on the drive shafts to wheels looked at. Cheers, Mark.
JustJames Posted 18March, 2012 Report Share Posted 18March, 2012 Hi Peter I would expect shot CV joints to make a cluck-cluck-cluck sound when turning a sharp corner, only because that is what shot CV joints do in FWD cars. There is a rear lateral arm which sometimes needs replacing, part number 8 in the attached diagram. That is also a possible contender, but really it could be anything. Another frequent culprit is the engine mount bushing which can need replacing. The real answer though, is that some in-person investigation will be necessary to find the culprit. Whatever it turns out to be, report back, so that those of us who have had a stab at it can now how wrong we all turn out to be. James
