Ok lets add to the transperancy/details of a few of the vehicles. Firstly dont forget to add the 5% Shannons commission to the winning bid ...and also that you are buying a car you cant test drive or have a PPI on - the shannons reports are a semi PPI from a non independant garage. You also can't talk to the owner to guage him/her. ....I'm in Sydney so stopped in on Sunday and had a good look and last night too. seems lots get caught up in the hype of an auction

356 looked like an absolute peach and aust del as well!

74 /911 UK import $80000 plus commission = $84000 --- lots of competitive bidding ....didn't inspect it but looked it over and looked quite nice, unknown ks except for the last 15 years of invoices which probably is mostly what matters. Seems the import tax wasn't applied by the buyer and it went fro what I would expect and Aust del to go for. I wouldn't have thought it was highly collectable or good enough (or old enough?) for the import discount to be waived.

79 /930 yank import lefty righty $110000 plus commission = $116500 ---- two or three slow bidding ....didn't inspect it but looked it over and looked quite nice, not sure of original ks but came with a small folder of paperwork and needed a little work. Report said - engine oil weep, gearbox oil weep, cv boots worn, trans mounts cracked, a few marks here and there, reverse lamps headlight washers not working. At least they'd removed the hideous dodgem rubber bricks. Price was fair for the buyer IMO.

01 / 996 turbo No options, Lowered excessively (about 80mm off ground), Gemballa rims, aero spoiler $115000 plus commission = $120750 ---- two people slow bidding --- inspected this one thoroughly for an hour. 49000 ks. Books were reasonable and copies of service receipts from 2007 (which I'll get to later), 5 owner car from what I can deduct. Excellent interior but front seats had no wear on bolsters or hardly anywhere (I believe the front seats had been out of the car for a long while) . Definately sold without owner fixing anything that needed to be done for a usual sale. Was blowing a little smoke upon deep revs, Drivers mat worn through in 3 places, 50 stonechips and or marks on body  some chips in weird places, one 4 mm diam deep chip on top of spoiler and one deep chip size of fingernail on rear lower quarter. had some clear wrap on front and places and had been put on over chips marks scratches and peeling off on some corners. Front splitter worn right down by about 1cm and badly chipped. Front wheel arch lips rolled up. Front radiator bumper  loose. Intercooler intakes resprayed and a little bubbling. Tool bag cover looked like it'd been dragged behind the car for 5 ks. Report said - Engine oil weep (on a 49k car??), exhaust manifold leak, coolant stains on one radiator assembly, one CV boot weeping one CV boot split, window tint peeling (15 x 3cm scratch on  one) centre console marked badly near seatbelt buckles. Importantly, receipts said -- I could deduct that from a period of about 4 years of one owner that it'd been tracked somewhat in that time and about 4000ks done in that time. When he sold it the service at that time said - Install white gauges, reinstall standard steel brakes, reinstall standard suspension, reinstall standard exhaust, install new painted sills, install new inner guard linings, "damage to underbody "can we fill?", remove Aims kit, radiator leak engine out if repairing. And the fire extinguisher was still bolted in place on the floor, just sayin!!

I wiped a 10cent piece and a 20 cent piece size oil drips from the garage floor protector "mat" on sunday before the car was moved for the auction and inspected it again Monday night and they had reappeared albeit half the size. So I believe someone paid top dollar coz it's red and lowered and wheels and did bugger all due dilligence. Needed about $7 - $8000 spent to repair everything properly to make it excellent, and that does not include engine oil leaks and radiator leak.

Should have been about $105k tops including commission IMO. The devil's in the detail!!

Yes i was interested too but not anywhere near that price, it actually had too many demons I decided, for me to buy it......and Shannons could have saved me the trip from Melbourne if they had have answered me properly on the phone when I asked is there anything I should know about the car that I cant see in the photos or not disclosed in your write up and is there any  service receipts with it and do they state anything of concern that I should know about .....

Incidently just an observation - I dont know much about the splitty Kombi that sold for about 28K with slow few bids, but it looked great - thought it would go about 50K. and an Escort twin cam (I know nothing about these except they are a Ford) went for about $60k with enormously strong bidding and that surprised me no end....and also a twin cam MGA (know nothing about them either except they have four wheels) went for about 85K with really strong bidding and guide was about 50k to 60k , was a real good looker too!

Awesome review sandy468. I was also interested and called Bob Whym few days earlier to get bit of background on the car. (thankfully the rego number was in the condition report). Bob knew the car and kudos to him for giving me a fairly honest feedback. Unfortunately none of the cosmetic details that you've picked out come out in our conversation.. Bob did say that the coolant leak was semi-serious (pressed-in coolant pipes in the head-cylinder will need replacing) He estimated that engine will need to come out and put about 15-20k value on the job. For me this was a ok buy at 85k but not at 115k. Knowing what we know now, this was definitely a no go, especially since this been tracked for a while.

sandy468 - how long have you been looking for 996tt ?  If you are looking at an auto, I saw a good example being sold by Greg Muller
